Lyr Req: Down in the mine

I'm looking for a song written by Tommy Dadisman, though I think his stage name might be Tommy Dee. He had a small following and I'm hoping someone can help. The chorus is:

Down in the mine
you hear'em hollar
fire, fire, down in the hole
That's the sound of a coal miner
as he digs the dirty coal

It's a great song. I just need to find all the words.

I was thinking of Fire in the Hole by Mason Daring & John Sales, but apparently that's not it.

There is a Tom Dadisman who, along his wife Olive Crow Dadisman, runs the Anna Jarvis Birthplace Museum near Grafton, West Virginia. (Anna Jarvis is credited with the creation of Mother's Day—see this article.) Tom Dadisman formerly lived in Nashville. Tom Dadisman wrote a poem commemorating the Sago mine disaster and posted it here, signing it "Tommy Dee Dadisman." The introduction mentions that he was a coal miner and wrote a song called COAL BLACK COAL.

I suspect he may be your man.

You might have to contact him; I am unable to find anything about a song called DOWN IN THE MINE.

This rings a distant bell, a song my dad used to sing that had the last line of the chorus (after some pretty dank descriptors)
"Way down in the mine."

It isn't the song you mention, but now I'll have to think about it and see if it's here or if I need to add it. I think his song was well-known and fairly traditional.

He also wrote a song about a mining disaster in Washington State's Blue Canyon. I'll go ahead and post those lyrics for the DT if they aren't already up there.

Stilly River Sage: Could you be thinking of DARK AS A DUNGEON (which in the DT is called DARK AS THE DUNGEON)?

LOL, I don't know if you finally got the information you needed or not, but I am Tommy Dee's daughter, and you remember right, the song is called "Fire in the Hole" and one of my favorites. You can get a copy of his tape by calling the Anna Jarvis Birthplace Museum at 304 265-5549. Hope that helps!

Hi Becci,

My Dad use to work with your Dad at Badger and was with him when he wrote "Fire in the Hole" and "Coal Black Coal".   Do you know if "Coal Black Coal is on that CD as well? I have the 45 record somewhere..but it's been years since I've seen it and I've moved several time.

Thank you
Beth Ann Ash St. Vincent (Domnick Ash was my Dad)
