He had a small following and I'm hoping someone can help. The chorus is: Down in the mine you hear'em hollar fire, fire, down in the hole That's the sound of a coal miner as he digs the dirty coal It's a great song. I just need to find all the words. |

(Anna Jarvis is credited with the creation of Mother's Day—see this article.) Tom Dadisman formerly lived in Nashville. Tom Dadisman wrote a poem commemorating the Sago mine disaster and posted it here, signing it "Tommy Dee Dadisman." The introduction mentions that he was a coal miner and wrote a song called COAL BLACK COAL. I suspect he may be your man. You might have to contact him; I am unable to find anything about a song called DOWN IN THE MINE. |

It isn't the song you mention, but now I'll have to think about it and see if it's here or if I need to add it. I think his song was well-known and fairly traditional. He also wrote a song about a mining disaster in Washington State's Blue Canyon. I'll go ahead and post those lyrics for the DT if they aren't already up there. |
