Clearwater Festival 2006

Is anyone going to the Hudson River Clearwater Festival this year and leaving from the NYC/NJ area on Friday June 16th? Or do you know the best public transportation ways?

MetroNorth goes directly to the Croton Harmon Railroad station. I'll be there from Thursday eve, in charge of the Working Waterfront. See you at the Volunteer party.
By the way, there is a rumor circulating that Springsteen will be joining Pete on stage. He will be in the New York area and there is a mysterious hole in his schedule....hmm.

The 18th sounds more like a travel date since he would be in Detroit the night before and Saratoga Springs the next night. It would be a stretch for Springsteen to make this sidetrip but you never know. I guess good rumors can sell tickets!

If you decide instead to drive to the festival from New Jersey, take the Palisades Interstate Parkway north into New York State. Go onto the NY State Thruway (I-87) and go south (east) across the Tappan Zee Bridge to the Tarrytown exit. Then take US 9 north about 10 miles to Croton Point Avenue. Follow Croton Point Avenue west to the very end. You will see the entrance to the park where they have the festival.

Thanks! See you there. Is it right there by the train? What should I bring for the camping? (other than "we shall overcome" for Mr. Springsteen and Mr. Seeger to Sign!...have you heard it?...I got choked up on the erie canal song...it haas been my favorite since I was a little little kid.)

The train station at Croton-Harmon has a jitney bus from the station to the festival. The current plan is that there will be music to entertain those waiting for busses at each end. As far as camping, it is my understanding that only those reserving camping spaces or volunteering will be allowed to camp. You can check this out by going to www.clearwater.org

By the way, Ron, as far as I know it is strictly a rumor about Bruce joining Pete at the festival. When I asked the festival director about it, he stated that he could neither affirm nor deny the rumor.

Well, that's one way to boost ticket sales, isn't it?

For the sake of the Clearwater, I hope it is true. I am a bit puzzeled as to why the festival director would not affirm or deny. It would look terrible to find out that someone "inside" started a rumor to boost ticket sales. I would hope that the Clearwater, of all organizations, would not stoop to such levels.

The failure of the Clearwater festival director to confirm or deny the rumor means one of two things: 1. Bruce Springsteen will be there, but he asked the festival not to use his name. 2. There is a realistic chance that Bruce will be there, but the matter has not yet been settled. If it is certain that Bruce will not be at the Clearwater festival, then I am sure the director would very explicitly deny the rumor.

I certainly hope that is the case.

The rumor started when one of my friends asked me whether Bruce was going to be at the festival. He had noted that there was a space in Bruce's schedule and asked me for inquire. The rest is as noted above.

Now you know as much as I do.

The performance schedule has just been posted at the Clearwater web site.

http://www.clearwater.org/revival06/schedules.html

You will note the presence of many familiar names scattered throughout the festival. In many ways, it seems like a blast from the past. Pete will be performing on Saturday, as well as other times when he drops in on friends' sets.

See you there.

Though many of the names are familiar to you all there are some that may not be--and they will be a joyous discovery if you go to the smaller stages to see them.

Andy Revkin and Uncle Wade, Bar Scott, and Sharon Katz come to mind.

Just got this as part of a note from Clearwater:

Special Event - PETE SEEGER, THE WORDS AND THE MUSIC,
sharing seven decades as a singer, songwriter and activist.

This will be one of the events at the festival.

It's official. Springsteen will NOT be at the Revival. He will be out of town enjoying Fathers' Day weekend. Sorry about that.
