18 May 06 - 04:22 AM (#1742929) Subject: RE: BS: The highest note in Britain? From: Dave the Gnome Brilliant! The great British eccentric strikes again:-) Reminds me that when I was on top of the Ben I rattled out a tune on the old gob iron and my mate, Mike handed me a 10p peice. "What's that for?" I asked. "Well, now you can say you were once the highest paid mouth organ player in Scotland." ...and I still do say it! Cheers :D (tG) |

18 May 06 - 06:32 AM (#1742971) Subject: RE: BS: The highest note in Britain? From: Paul Burke Someone claims it's theirs. However, as he says he took an organ up, and the photo clearly shows a piano, I think there must be more instruments up there waiting to be discovered. |

I'm not sure whether that's littering or fly tipping, when it comes to charging him. Still, whatever floats his boat......or in this case, probably sinks it. Don T. |

Back in the late 70s when I was a member of METHS - Malta Expedition Training Hillwalking Society, (RAF) we hosted a talk from a gentleman who was involved in moving a grand piano in 1942 (ish) from France to Spain, by hand, across the Pyrannes to stop the Germans taking it away as spoils of war. Wrapped in tarps, covered in ropes, they hauled it all the way! Skipy |

Also seen one down an old mineshaft...apparently it never worked till they threw it down the mine where it made its only sound...'A flat miner' I believe. |

19 May 06 - 07:34 AM (#1743810) Subject: RE: BS: The highest note in Britain? From: BanjoRay A friend of mine on the summit of Ben Nevis one New Year's Day saw a naked guy standing on the trig point playing a trumpet. He told him he'd done it the previous two New Year's Days on the summits of Snowdon and Scafell Pike. It was apparently a bet for half a bottle of Pernod. I've seen the photograph - superb. Don't know what the tune was, though. If he pointed the trumpet upwards, that would have been the highest note in Britain. Cheers Ray |

19 May 06 - 03:18 PM (#1744089) Subject: RE: BS: The highest note in Britain? From: autolycus Solution (?) provided on BBC Radio 4 this p.m. The piano was taken up by 24 removal men from Dundee, working in relays of 4 at front, 4 at back. They kept the keyboard as a souvenir (?). Happened in 1986. I missed the "Why?" bit. Ivor |
