The following from the above.

Jon Collins, former chief executive of the Bar, Entertainment & Dance Association (BEDA) and now in charge at research consultancy CGA, has revealed exclusively to The Publican that PPL has indicated it may treble the costs already paid by licensees

Got to be a good thing if it makes live music a more attractive proposition for landlords.

I like this line

"The consultation isn't looking at pricing, it's looking at the structuring of tariffs."

If it reduces the amount of muzak in pubs and restaurants, I, for one, will not be unhappy.

And I also echo Snuffy's comment.

Pubs tend to pay make little distinction between live and recorded music and tend to pay for a licence that will provide them with both. There were certainly moves announced to combine the two requirements (PPL/PRS) into one payment.

If it was a reduction for the cost of live music - it could be seen as good news but any increased charge is rarely good news as it has a knock-on effect on everything else.

I suspect that anyone currently thinking of providing a DJ rather than live music as a main attraction, on grounds of costs - will more likely to knock the whole thing on the head rather than book a live band instead (for the same fee).

I agree with Snuffy
