16 Feb 99 - 10:25 AM (#58825) Subject: lyric request: I truly understand... From: Liza Constable I truly understand that you love another man and your heart can no longer be mine... Anybody got the rest of the lyrics to this one? I know that Bruce molsky recorded a terrific version, but I can't seem to find my copy, and would also like to find more words and some history of the song. It would be much appreciated if you know anything... thanks Liza |

17 Feb 99 - 10:03 PM (#59053) Subject: RE: lyric request: I truly understand... From: Nathan Sarvis I have a 1928 recording by Shortbuckle Roark and family which is essentially the same as Harpgirl posted, but the chorus consists of "I truly understand. . . " only once each time. It's also interesting that the "Who's gonna shoe. . ." verse is separated from the "Papa's gonna shoe. . ." by two or three other verses. They also have one additional verse, as follows:
Remember what you said to me
When we stood side by side
You promised that you'd marry me
And be no other man's bride, my love
And be no other man's bride |

Nathan, aren't you an autoharp player? Oh and by the way I play autoharp or buttonharp as I've taken to calling them...harpetta |

16 Mar 25 - 05:28 PM (#4219252) Subject: RE: ADD: I truly understand... From: GUEST,keberoxu This song appears on the three sisters album which includes Peggy, Penny, and Barbara Seeger. In fact, the track includes their father singing on the chorus -- plainly an at=home recording. The label is Prestige (vinyl). |
