Radriano in hospital (May 2006 - he's out now)

23 May 06 - 11:11 PM (#1746372)
Subject: Radriano in hospital
From: Peter Kasin

Radriano checked into Stanford hospital last week with abdominal pain. They found a kidney stone, and in the process also found a blocked artery in the heart. The stone passed a couple of days ago, and a tube was inserted into the artery, with a balloon which widens the artery and allows blood to flow smoothly. He should be home at any time. Needless to say, he won't be going to Seattle with me this week to sing at the NW Folklife Festival. Any good wishes you'd like to send him here, I'll pass them on to him (he won't have computer access until probably next week). He's doing well, considering all that's happened. The good news is Richard doesn't need any invasive, major surgery. Thanks, everyone.

Hey Rads!!

Now don't start trying to catch up with me and a few others around here. A cath and a stint is enough for awhile. Listen to the Docs and try to do it right....You'll be doin' fine in no time! Now those kidney stones are nasty and painful but listen to the cardiodocs 'cause when that thing quits you'll have to pay the check!

Seriously, I wish you all the best and all the blessings of modern medicine. Personally, I like to paraphrase the old DuPont slogan......."Barely Living Through Chemistry"

Get Well

The better news is that Richard called me about 4:30 mudcat time. He's at home & it looks like he'll be needing some relaxing, follow ups & he'll be taking his med's he sounded reasured of his health & in good shape & discussing that he wouldn't be dropping in at Mystic this year then he had to go, his doctor was calling on the other line. I don't think he's out of the woods yet (knock on wood) but hopefully henear the clearing.
Thanks Chanteyranger for putting up this post, I hope his doctor was calling with good news.

parts continue to work in harmony now that you
got the tune up...

hang in there, and good luck and healing energy to you.

Congratulations to Radriano on getting out of the hospital--and it sounds like the problem was addressed. Thank goodness. Hope you're back singing at festivals and elsewhere soon.

Yes, he's home now, and will be taking the week off from work. The doctor advised him to take a slow, steady recovery, with no heavy lifting for awhile, maybe returning to work next week. Thanks, people.

Should be up and around and singing in no time, the recovery from the stent thing is quite fast.
Keep taking your meds, you'll probably feel better than you have for ages fairly soon.

Good to hear that Richard is out of the hospital and resting at home! Also, that they found the blockage and was able to clear it without there being any lasting damage or heart attack.

Sending my best healing thoughts your way, Richard, and thanks so much, ChanteyRanger, for letting us all know.

Take care of yourself and listen.... It's hard to stay in any kind of harmony if you push to hard and don't let things warm up properly. Hope you get your travel pass as soon as can be, but take care of yourself first.

Richard,
So glad to hear that this was caught quickly! Butch has gone thru that delightful angioplasty 3 times now, so we're well aware of the whole thing. Hardest part: that nasty diet change! Please take care of yourself & know that we're praying for you down here in smoggy So. Cal.

Jean & Butch

Richard-

Scary thread title but I bet the reality was scary enough. I hate thread titles like that...

Do pace yourself in your recovery, and I hope someone is making sure you get something good to eat. Should we send you a couple of lobsters from Maine?

Like Tinker said, listen to your body and take it slow and steady. Don't beat up on yourself with a bunch of "I should be able to..." It'll all come in time. One year out from heart surgery and I am finally learning this!

Lots of healing thoughts and thanks givings coming your way. Thanks Chanteyranger for letting us know!

Richard hasn't been able to get to a computer yet, but he was able to see a printout of your messages up to last Tuesday afternoon, and he was touched by them. He expects to be back at work soon and will, I'm sure, see the rest of the messages.

I've been on the phone with him while in Seattle, and talked with him also today when back home. There's been some post-op problems; inflammation and an allegic reaction to medication; not good, but caught in time, so not life-threatening. He's looking forward to getting back to work and getting back to some normalcy in his life. Again, he really appreciated your good wishes.

A heartfelt thanks to all who posted to this thread.

I am better although I did contract a post-operative bronchitis infection. Lots of wheezing and coughing. It's slowly getting better.

I've been back to work for two days now - taking it slow and easy.

Hello to everyone,

Good news! I've had my "echo test" (that's the gimp's equivalent of the treadmill stress test) and the result shows that only 5% of my heart was affected by trauma. I've started cardio rehab - yeah, they're making me excercise again. Apparently talking doesn't count as excercise.
