Sorry I didn't manage this sooner, Wolfgang!

Give me strong whisky and weak women
Everything will be just fine
Give me weak whisky and a strong woman
You'll break this heart of mine
I love women, whisky too
When I get drunk there's nothing I won't do
Give me strong whisky and weak women
Everything will be just fine

Give me old whisky and young women
Everything's going my way
Give me young whisky and an old woman
There'll be hell to pay
Whisky's fine when it's aged in wood
When a woman's aged it's not quite as good
Give me old whisky and young women
Everything's going my way

Give me good whisky and bad women
Sit back and watch me scream
Give me bad whisky and a good woman
I won't do a thing
I like my whisky neat and strong
I like my women loving long
Give me good whisky and bad women
Everything's going my way

This is as sung by Hamish Imlach on 'Scottish Sabbath' (I think). I entirely agree with Hamish's (and Shel Silverstein's) sentiments on whisky. As for the rest - nobody could ever claim Hamish (or Shel) aspired to political correctness. I heard him belt out this song a couple of years before his death with the same gusto as twenty years before. Still didn't endear the song to me! - Susanne

Susanne, there's no need to say sorry for the delay, just the need and wish to say "thank you" from my side. My joy for getting lyrics I had asked for is perhaps even stronger when I had already given up hope.

Many thanks! ;o)
I saw Hamish play the song in the early eighties i Dunoon. He was hilarieus!I seem to remember he played a whole lot of barred chords high up the scale + fingerpicking.
Thanks again.

Peter

Hello Mudcatters
Is there anybody out there who can explain how Hamish Imlach played Old Whiskey and Young Women on the "This sporting life " album?
I'm not on the look out for note by note tablature, just where did he have the capo and basic chord shapes.
I've been trying to sort it out for a long time and am getting nowhere!
Many thanks!

GUEST Peter - I posted a set of Chords in April '09 - work your own arrangement from that , and put the capo whereever YOUR voice is comfortable !
