Shanty Session for June in NH

It's that time again. Having just gotten home from Mystic, I may not be too coherent. I would never have believed that so much musical fun could be packed into only twenty five hours. Detai;s will be forthcoming when the brain is rested a bit.

Anyway, the June Shanty / Forebitter Session will be taking place at the Press room on saturday, 17 June, from 3:30 to 7:30 PM.

Please be aware that a private party will be happening upstairs on that day and might be a bit noisey. However, peter Souza (doryman) allowed as we will "drown them out."

See you saturday - Tom

Tom-

I believe that JudyB and I will be attending but I'm still experiencing flashbacks from the Mystic Sea Music Festival and should not be trusted to follow through on anything. I wonder what this strange tickling is in the back of my throat?

I'll check with the rest of Roll & Go Wednesday evening when we get together.

So pleased that you and Linn could experience Mystic. What a blast!

Charley Noble

Hope my voice is still more or less with me -- the allergies have been up and down. I don't think my voice has been 100% and reliable since, what?, March?!?

At least it held up, more or less, through the weekend at Mystic.

Looks like we will be there this weekend. Will try to bring a few of the crew to engage in some song with you on Saturday afternoon.

If all goes as planned (%#!**&^!) I will be there with Tami and possible Jacqui.

Last time my windshield was cracked by a rock someone kicked up. $240 with a $250 deductible on my insurance. The crack grew to 10" overnight so I replaced the windshield.

HMMMM - Linn's birthday. We must celebrate.
I am totally frustrated in the gift department. She liked her flamingo sugar bowl and I actually believe that Barry liked his monstrosity although his wife looked a bit taken back.
You people have to cooperate. Talk to Jeri about the proper response to a gift from SINS.

Since my taste is as bizarre, I mean, as cultivated as Sinsull's, I ALWAYS appreciated her gifts. Thanks to her I have the only non-anatomically correct squid (bait squid -- no tentacles, just fringe) in my collection. Also the only squid brooch -- with rhinestones even!

I even provided a home for the Elvis-singing lobster rejected by John Roberts. I ASKED if I could have it. (It's been a rough year. I've been overworked, nerves shattered, iron-poor blood -- there's got to be SOME excuse...)

And I don't actually COLLECT flamingoes ... (accumulate is more like it) ... so I can appreciate the design of things like flamingo sugar bowls (or little pitcher, as the case may be -- and I've even found a USE for the other ceramic flamingo rack or napkin holder or whatever it is).

I wanted to get myself a squid rubberstamp for my birthday. (Word of advice -- ALWAYS get yourself something for your birthday.) But I can't FIND one!!! (And nobody makes squid lawn ornaments, either, alas.)

And, heh heh heh, I'm VERY pleased with what I've found for YOUR B.D.!!! (Now all I have to do is order it.)

SINS,
Please do not bring Tami..she is a cruel young lady who tries to push older people into lakes in the early morning darkness. I also caught her collecting tips from a table one Sunday morning. How crass.

I don't even think I'll discuss the issue with your windshield.

Linn's birthday,,,,hmmm, this could be really interesting.

Looking forward to seeing you this weekend.

Where is Kendall when you need him?

Have a great story for you guys about Mystic.

Always enjoy your company.

We'll see what we can do to select a few of the 600 or so digital images we have of Mystic for show and tell. We do have one awesome panoramic view of Don Sineti! We also have pictures of baby geese and ducklings for some reason?

There are some nice shots of Roll & Go shantying aboard the Morgan.

Nor may be joining us.

My nose is now beginning to run...

I'm glad SOMEBODY was taking pictures -- I didn't have time to even finish off the partial roll (yeah, I'm still using film) in my camera.

Linn

(Put a leash on your nose, Charley, to keep it from running. )

Well, I haven't had a chance to send out a reminder email to those on my (very informal) music events list, so I hope everyone remembers the third Saturday of the month (or had it circled on their calendars).

I thought I could sing last night at the Friday session -- and actually DID sing a couple songs in my more or less normal voice.

Then, when it got noisier, I tried to sing "Lovely Agnes" at my usual volume. Big mistake. Voice went for a walk..

Should be okay for quietly singing around the table today, but I'm not leading anything loud, that's for sure!

Allergies! I hate 'em!

I wish we could have stayed longer. We had to run off to a BBQ for our daughter's class where we were eaten by mosquitoes amidst the wafting zephyrs of malfunctioning septic system aroma (sigh). Next time I'll make through "Billy O'Shea" without the memory lapse (yeah…right :-)

Cheers,
Feadan

Feadan et al-

"Billy O'Shea" went over well and I'd certainly like to hear it again.

I certainly wasn't functioning on all cylinders but I'm happy I was there. I think we set a record for serially releasing three different versions of the old she-crab/crawfish/lobster.

There also were some nice instrumental accompaniment this time around, quiet and supportive.

And, alas, the airconditioner is back in full force, eating up the vocals.

Jeri-

Was that "Warlike Seamen" that you and Jeff Warner were doing such a nice job singing?

I think I'll try reviving some of the old Bob Roberts (last of the sailing barge skippes) sea songs I used to lead, such as "The Worst Old Ship (Waiting for the Day)."

Charley Noble

Sorry, just able to grab some time.

Smallish group (big enough, but perhaps not as highly populated as some recent sessions), but really good choices of songs. Some of us were afflicted with iffy voices (sigh) due to allergies. (I hate it when the voice isn't there when you expect it to be -- but sometimes it WAS there when I DIDN'T expect it to be. Deep sigh.)

Jacqui's got a good excuse -- her body is still 5 hours ahead of Eastern Daylight Savings Time. Tami ended up with another commitment and Sinsull didn't want to come to the singaround alone.

As it was, Maine, New Hampshuh, and Gloucester, Massachusetts were all represented.

Just looked at my watch, and I'm late for a date with some water, a book and a margarita (but at least I got most of the deck planting -- including shlepping dirt and lots of sweating -- done).

Later!
Linn

Charley, thanks - yes, it was Warlike Seamen. I found the dots to Owen James Baines, so I can learn that when I have some energy. Mowed the lawn, and it's about a hunnert-an'-eleventy out. I'm still alive though...I think.
