15 Jun 06 - 09:38 AM (#1760593) Subject: RE: BS: PP v the big C From: Paul Burke No experience of it, but if it's any help, my brother had an operation removing part of his bowel due to colon cancer in 2001. He's made a very full recovery and is enjoying life very much thank you 5 years later. All the best, and tell us if there's anything practical we can do. |

Very best wishes for a full recovery. |

15 Jun 06 - 12:02 PM (#1760724) Subject: RE: BS: PP v the big C From: greg stephens Pied Piper Well they took a bloody big chunk off me a couple of years back for very similar reasons and here I am telling the tale. I cant tell you not to worry because you will. I can say dont drink whisky or anything similar, not at all good in that situation. But the odd pint of wallop in the Peveril shouldn't do any harm (I have my spies). And bagpipe music is pretty much bound to stimulate the immune system, I would have thought. |

I'm walking with you too, because I got diagnosed with a rather nasty leukemia awhile back. I'll hold your hand anytime if you want and we can both take this journey one foot at a time, one day at a time. |

16 Jun 06 - 01:42 PM (#1761601) Subject: RE: BS: PP v the big C From: Metchosin Thanks CarolC, its sometimes harder for those closest to you than for yourself. Hubby took it really badly and ended up being treated for heart failure. For me, it sometimes helps to talk about it with those with which I have a bit of distance, without fear of sending their blood pressure through the roof. |

16 Jun 06 - 11:21 PM (#1761927) Subject: RE: BS: PP v the big C From: Stilly River Sage The shock of the diagnosis is sometimes the hardest thing to deal with. It was for me, at any rate. Two surgeries after my diagnosis and things are fine, but I certainly made a few rapid changes. I set aside the work on the second master's degree and spent (still spend) more time with my kids. Best wishes! SRS |

17 Jun 06 - 12:15 AM (#1761950) Subject: RE: BS: PP v the big C From: jeffp I wish you the best of luck. The best advice I can give is to watch your nutrition and try to maintain a good healthy diet. Nutritional supplements such as Boost or Ensure (in the US, whatever the equivalent is in the UK, where I assume you are) can be helpful when you can't eat full meals. Hard candies can help if the chemo makes everything taste wrong. Jeff |

Both Kendall and I have had brushes with cancer - mine is gone but Kendall still has regular checkups and lost his voice. However we are both still very much alive. I do agree with previous comments about the efficacy of the Mudcat. Please do keep us up to date on progress and remember that many here have had similar experiences so if you want to shout or 'winge' or just have a hand to hold you have a lot of friends here. |
