16 Jun 06 - 05:50 PM (#1761774) Subject: RE: Paul McCartney turns 64 From: Wesley S You're right - sorry I jumped the gun. The CNN headline said "Now that he's 64 " so I assumed - big mistake - that it was his birthday today. Most of the article was about the soap opera of the seperation with his wife. I skipped over that part and missed the reference that his birthday is indeed this Sunday - not today. Sorry about that. Look at it this way - I've given you enough advanced warning so that you can run out and get him a card and bake him a cake. |
16 Jun 06 - 06:09 PM (#1761791) Subject: RE: Paul McCartney turns 64 From: Genie Whew! I was afraid there wouldn't be time to get that card and cake to him on time! ;-D |

16 Jun 06 - 09:40 PM (#1761892) Subject: RE: Paul McCartney turns 64 From: GUEST,Desdemona Aaaah, I was so madly in love with him pre-1970 or so...and I have to echo alanabit's sentiment above and wish him a very happy birthday and another 64 for all the wonderful songs that have formed a fair percentage of my life's soundtrack thus far (crappy "solo" work and peg-legged gold-digging porn model soon-to-be-ex-wife be damned)! ~D |
16 Jun 06 - 11:07 PM (#1761922) Subject: RE: Paul McCartney turns 64 From: Genie Yeah, Desdemona, I guess Heather's already answered Paul's lyric hook-line question, hasn't she? |
17 Jun 06 - 06:00 PM (#1762437) Subject: RE: Paul McCartney turns 64 From: Fliss He was my fav of the Beatles. Ive still got magazine cuttings, beatles books somewhere in the loft. Had a Beatles book off a school friend one christmas and didnt get it into my desk fast enought and the teacher confiscated it and wouldnt give it back. We all thought it was because she wanted to read it! That was probably in 1964. Ive still got all the pictures in my White Album. I do wish I could have afforded to collect more of their albums when I was in my teens. Ive got With the Beatles and my sister has HELP. Heard Yesterday played at a school play yesterday and it still makes all my skin tingle. Happy Birthday Paul. |
17 Jun 06 - 06:43 PM (#1762473) Subject: RE: Paul McCartney turns 64 From: GrassStains Paul was my guy too. That little infatuation inspired a very short story I wrote recently and was lucky enough to get published, I Married a Beatle. I saw the Beatles when they came to Chicago. My sister and I *knew* we wouldn't scream like all those silly girls, but...well...once you see them and all...It was GREAT. A wonderful memory. I too wish him another 64 years and thank him for some truly great songs. Carol |
17 Jun 06 - 06:53 PM (#1762478) Subject: RE: Paul McCartney turns 64 From: Little Hawk "Yesterday" was an astoundingly good pop song, probably McCartney's masterpiece. He didn't interest me as much as Lennon or Harrison, but he did some darned good stuff anyway. |

18 Jun 06 - 01:26 PM (#1762914) Subject: RE: Paul McCartney turns 64 From: Peter T. Thanks, Paul, for many, many, many years of happiness. I am pretty sure that you are not the most likeable person there ever was, but in the end, I don't much care. "Here, There and Everywhere" may be your masterpiece, but I confess that "Maybe I'm Amazed" is my favourite of your solo work. ("She Loves You" is the greatest pop song ever, in my humble opinion). yours, Peter T. |
18 Jun 06 - 02:21 PM (#1762947) Subject: RE: Paul McCartney turns 64 From: GUEST Ditto to what PeterT said. Except I think "Let it Be" may be his masterpiece. Or maybe "Blackbird". Or maybe... |
18 Jun 06 - 02:42 PM (#1762955) Subject: RE: Paul McCartney turns 64 From: Little Hawk He certainly had a knack for lovely melodies. |
18 Jun 06 - 02:58 PM (#1762968) Subject: RE: Paul McCartney turns 64 From: GUEST I would also add, I believe "All My Lovin" was the best pop song ever. Not just a knack for lovely melodies. He could also write songs with some kick to them: Back in the USSR, Helter Skelter, She Came in through the Bathroom Window (one of my faves--an early stalker song), and Got to Get you into My Life, one of the best horn sections on any Beatles song! I think he hit the right Stax/Memphis sound note with that song perfectly. Sure he wrote a lot of drivel. So did Lennon. But we should all have such problems, looking at a life of music output that McCartney has had. And as to those lovely melodies, he did it again with Jennie Wren. So you can't write the old man off yet. |
