Lyr Req: Suenos/Sueno (Bill Staines)

Subject: Lyr Req: Sueños (Bill Staines)
From: Genie

At the Seattle Song Circle last Sunday (try saying that if your two front teeth are missing!) a guy (Doug, who sounds like Marty Robbins) sang a beautiful Spanish lyric song which he told me was called "Sueños" and was by Bill Staines.
I can't find it on any of Bill's albums that are listed at iTunes or in the DT of forum here.
Does anyone know which album it's on? Can someone post the lyrics?

(In case my diacritical marks don't translate to Windows for you unenlighted Mudcatters who don't use Mac, it's "Suenos" with a tilde on the "n.") §;-D

The title of the thread should be changed to the singular.

Peace, I know it means "dreams," but the song is in Spanish. :) I'm looking for the lyrics and which album it's on. (I looked at Bill's website, http://www.acousticmusic.com/staines/bsdisco.htm but did not find it.)

Thanks for the info, Guest! Pretty sure that's not one of Bill's albums that's available on iTunes, but it's good to know it's not one of his that's no longer available, either.

Peace, is the title "Sueño" not "Sueños?" If so, yes, maybe Joe or a clone will fix the title. :)

I think you posted your link post while I was typing one myself. That's why I didn't see it.

Maybe we should leave the title as is, in case someone else makes the same mistake I did and searches for "Sueños."

Me too, Peace.   Thanks,

Now I need to get the song. The album it's on is not available at iTunes, so I'll have to order it elsewhere. (I think the Mudcat Store is down now, but I have that one and a couple others I could order via Mudcat I think.)

And, oh, I was wrong. I forgot that the verse is in English, with the chorus in Spanish. Though as I recall, Doug sang the verse in Spanish too.

It sounds queer that we can't find the lyrics for the song Suenõs by Bill Staines anywhere. I'd like to get it too.

Subject: Lyr Add: SUEÑO (Bill Staines)

I dunno. This question poses a perennial moral quandry for music sites. I don't feel guilty about posting lyrics because I would suppose that anybody who would want to know the lyrics of this song has paid to hear Bill Staines sing it, either in person or on CD. Some of Bill's CD's have printed lyrics, and some don't. I have a recording of this song on the First Million Miles CD, which does not have lyrics. I copied the lyrics from the Music to Me songbook.
-Joe Offer-

SUEÑO
(Bill Staines)

1. By my dying fire tonight, I see your face within the light
It smiles and fades like fleeting shadows on the ground.
And the river running near brings back the song I used to hear
When we were one and danced the streets of Spanish town.

CHORUS
Rio Grande, agua cantando
En la noche, oigo tu cancion
Mi guitarra canta contigo,
Una cancion de mi corazon

2. And so I hold you once again, it's just a dream I know but then,
Better a dream than never holding you to me.
Now in the fire's dying glow I feel your warmth and I remember
Oh so well, the way our loving used to be.

CHORUS

3. The ocotillo's flaming flower it grew as red as my heart's blood, the hour
You left me for the ways of San Antone.
and now beside the water's flow, my fire dies, the memories go
And once again the dream is gone and I'm alone.

CHORUS (Repeated)

Translation:
Rio Grande, singing water,
In the night, I hear your song.
My guitar sings with you,
A song of my heart.
