19 Jun 06 - 07:56 PM (#1764124) Subject: RE: How many Uilleann pipers are in England From: Peter K (Fionn) Jim, Mike Ryan is a piper who plays (or played?) with Cara, a trio from somewhere around east Yorks, north Lincs. According to Micca, it seems he's the best, and pipers like like Nick Scott (Last Night's Fun) and Paul Brennan (various bands, played on Gangs of New York soundtrack, played at the BBC Proms with the Royal Phil, etc) are simply not significant.*G* |

20 Jun 06 - 07:15 PM (#1765070) Subject: RE: How many Uilleann pipers are in England From: Georgiansilver Jim Carrol...click on the blue clicky that the Villan has added to the thread and click on MUSIC...have a listen to "The Faerie Queen" in which Mike Ryan(Uillean pipes) and Dave Oakley (fiddle) play in such sync that you cannot tell pipes from violin....My favourite track of their music. I have all three of their CDs and play them often. Great stuff. Best wishes, Mike. |

21 Jun 06 - 04:43 PM (#1765865) Subject: RE: How many Uilleann pipers are in England From: Bunnahabhain Some beautiful playing there, but I have to disagree. With headphones, it's easy to hear that the violin is off to the left, and the pipes off to the right. They are perfectly in sync though.... |

Enough geek mockery . I think there are hundreds of Uillean players but they dont get out much as they are all too busy making reeds! Mike McGoldrick plays the Uillean pipes and sounds great. |
