Just if anyone is interested, I have a friend who is selling off his collection of early Banjos. I think 6 of them plus a couple banjo ukes. If interested let me know and I will post the info I have on them. Some from late 1800s

here is the list:

1920s Slingerland tenor openbacked completely restored ser # 26

1892 SS Stewert 5 string open back one of the first fretted banjos in original condition very good

1929 Paramount B style tenor very collectable, in excellent restored but not refinished condition

1930s? Gretch 5 string open back in very good condition

1925 Epiphone plectrum with beautiful marquetry on the resonator...rare bird

very rare paramount A style banjo-mandolin "Banjolin... this had to have been special ordered from the catalogue neck dates 1926, pot dates 1927

then there's a 1920's SLingerland Maybell Tenor completely restored without upsetting the original finish.

If you have any interest, PM me and I will put you in touch with BOb, my friend, luthier and guitar player extrordinaire!

Liz! I thought we wanted people to come! If we raffle off banjos everyone will stay away. Easier to sell kittens I think!@ grin

Wow! I'd love the 1892 5 string model but
a)I'm in the wrong country and
b)I haven't got any spare cash anyway.
I have a little old Sears Roebuck banjo, called The Gem, a 5 string of uncertain age but the vellum is torn and I haven't fixed it yet.
Still, I love old instruments.

The Stewart may be the prize of the bunch, depending what model it is. It would help to provide a link to digital images.
