27 Jun 06 - 04:28 PM (#1770515) Subject: Tech: Screen Resolution? From: wysiwyg Well, the hard drive died, and thuis my absence the last week while the puder got straightened out. I had backed up most of the essentials, and I have a great tech who installed a new hard drive (twice the size) and increased RAM (doubled that too). But I also had a nifty little item that helped with screen resolution-- made the type denser, and I could choose how dense I wanted it to be. It was more than just the setting in Windows. But now it's gone. Can anyone think what free download I might have been using? ~Susan |

Their main purpose appears to be to book space round the tables for guitars, etc. rather than people. To be fair, they seem to be handy devices. |

I prefer to play miniaturised 120 bass piano accordions... i.e. technically all the bits, but physically condensed - usually designated as 'ladies' or even 'children' sizes. My (current) favourite - a 'Noble' (a 2 reeder, and also 2 bass stop settings) is about the same weight and size as some of my 32/48 bass full size boxes... (secret trick tip!) they are MUCH easier to work the bellows hard and fast for the 'flutter' etc... ;-) They are usually easier to spot - the piano keys are narrower, and often even the bass buttons are closer spaced. BTW, if you DO happen on any such mini-instruments, I may be interested in trying to buy them... "he doesn't have to retreat hastily too often though." Arthritis due to old age mainly - but another practical reason for preferring the smaller boxes is that they are easier to swing around your head at the end of the strap to clear a path to the back door... As I once said to a Real (i.e. - his day job!) Muso once (before he doubled up with laughter...) ... Seriously, it hasn't happened often but I have been in sessions where space has been very tight, musicians have crammed up closer, risking pokes in the eye with fiddle bows, drinks polluted by whatever comes out of the end of flutes, adopting slightly akward playing positions, etc. to accomodate another musician where there is someone sitting, apparently completely oblivious, whith a couple of instruments nicely supported on display taking up the space of at least one other musician. |

I have all of the fonts, etc, set the same as on my other computer. On this monitor the fonts look almost fragmented and I cannot figure out how to correct it. I went into Appearance and found hte ClearType but it hasn't made a difference. i am using WINXP and Foxfire. I've checked my settings in Foxfire to be the same as the other one, too. This monitor is larger, but my Rog set the resolution so it fits across the screen when it hadn't been before. Any help greatly appreciated. Right click on your desktop screen* then properties/settings. You should then find a "screen resolution" slider to play with. I'd suggest trying it towards the highest end then move downwards if it makes print too small. * or - start menu/control panel/appearance and themes/change the screen resolution |

When I do that, it clears up, but everything is BOLD, big time! As soon as I change the default back to Times Roman or just Arial, it looks like henscratch. Most curious! |

When you're on the window which displays the screen resolution slider, choose Advanced and then on the General Tab you can change the DPI settings. This can sharpen up the display. |

I have it set at 120 dpi at the moment. This text that I am typing looks good to me, so I have done something right when messing around in Firefox, I think.
