July 1, 2006) & Sunday at the Waterfront Blues Festival in Portland, Oregon, USA. Any chance any Mudcatters will be there? I am from New York, but am visiting in this area. It would be fun to meet West Coast 'catters. best, bbc |

01 Jul 06 - 06:21 PM (#1773738) Subject: RE: Waterfront Blues Fest--Portland, Oregon From: GUEST,bbc on vacation I didn't make it over there today, MAG; I was too wiped out after starting at 7:30 am & going to Powell's City of Books, walking around Chinatown & the Saturday Market. I will probably go tomorrow (Sunday) & plan on staying most of the afternoon. I don't know how you'd find me, though, even if we are both there. It would be great to meet you! Sorry, Dave. This trip is just Portland/Vancouver & a side trip to Crater Lake. I'm w/ my son & my former husband. Surprisingly enough, it's going well! It would be great to meet you, too. David may very well still move to this coast in the future & then I'll be coming out to visit. best, Barbara |

03 Jul 06 - 01:26 PM (#1774859) Subject: RE: Waterfront Blues Fest--Portland, Oregon From: bbc Hi, Genie, Sorry we missed each other. I won't be at the Fest today (Sunday), but will still be in town today & tomorrow. If you have time for coffee, etc., check for a PM w/ my cell phone number & we'll see if we can get together. Yay for Mudcat teeshirts! I met MAG on the street, near the festival. Pretty neat! I've spent the past 2 days walking around Portland--Powell's City of Books, Chinatown, Saturday Market, Blues Festival. I like Portland! best, Barbara |
03 Jul 06 - 02:41 PM (#1774910) Subject: RE: Waterfront Blues Fest--Portland, Oregon From: Genie I didn't make it to the Festival. My weeds and tomato and basil plants were calling. May go late in the day on the 4th, after my gigs and after the intense UV rays are gone. I love these 4-day festivals! Glad you met up with MAG and glad you're still in town. I have a neat jam session party to invite you to today if you're interested. (Warning: there will be [shudder!] jazz musicians there later in the evening.) ยง;-D Genie |
04 Jul 06 - 01:57 PM (#1775836) Subject: RE: Waterfront Blues Fest--Portland, Oregon From: bbc Happy 4th of July to the U.S. Mudcatters! I had a very pleasant breakfast meeting w/ Genie today. So nice to meet you! This afternoon, my family & I will be going to Fort Vancouver for music & fireworks. Then, tomorrow, we're off on a side trip to Crater Lake, the deepest lake in the U.S. Eventually, David & I need to go back East, but not quite yet! best, Barbara |
05 Jul 06 - 12:03 AM (#1776255) Subject: RE: Waterfront Blues Fest--Portland, Oregon From: MAG I bailed out today at about 4:00; I realized I had gotten too much sun, and decided to drive home when there was still daylight. So I missed today's headliner, Irma Thomas, but got her newest CD, and saw her interview(ed) on a small stage at 2:15. Sun. was Geoff Muldauer, with a harmonica player named Jim(?) DeLay, and then Jim Kweskin backed up by the Barbecue Band, and then all together. They must have played every tune from the Jim Kweskin Jug Band LP, which I still have; is one of my faves, ans I have to check: I think some from Geoff and Maria Pottery Pie too. What a thrilling blast from the past! |
05 Jul 06 - 01:27 AM (#1776314) Subject: RE: Waterfront Blues Fest--Portland, Oregon From: Genie MAG, that was probably Portland's own blues man Paul DeLay - one of our biggest local stars. (When he got busted for pot or some other controlled substance a few years back, the band performed during his er .. 'sabbatical' as "The No Delay Band." Sorry I didn't get to join you and Barb at the Blues Festival, but I got to do lots of jamming anyway. Barb, it was great meeting you this morning, even if briefly. Hope to see you again this side of the continent or yours. Happy Birthday, America, and hope everyone had a great and safe 4th. (Got to do my super-duper kazoo solo of the entire "Stars And Stripes Forever" at one of my gigs today anyway. (Kazoo needs the tissue paper repaired though.) Genie |
