I went to a Leeds folk and beer event in about 1973, brilliant!

Plus the amazing Duncan Mcfarlane what an event too late for me but I bet a lot of people will have a great time

A big, big thank you to everybody who came to the festival! Firstly the performers who gave their time and talent for free and had to battle with a wretched sound system. You were uniformly brilliant! And secondly the audience who came(and stayed)in droves despite the aformentioned p.a. problems and inclement weather. Peter, Alison and the gang, at the pub worked so hard to put the event on and it's been so pleasing that so many of you made the effort to support their labours. Equally, thanks for all the positive comments! The weekend was far from perfect but you've taken it in the spirit it was meant and enjoyed it!

Thirdly, your generosity was astonishing! We asked for practical donations (clothes, tinned food, toiletries) and were overwhelmed by the amount that was given. Likewise, monetary donations were huge!

I'll update when I've found out how much we've raised!

Thanks again!

Wayne

Wayne, it was a pleasure to do the event. For a first effort I thought the event was really well put together and you and the pub management should feel very pleased with the results.

I actually enjoyed trying to get the best out of the PA for Julie's set and, to be fair, the guys (and gal) running the rig were very helpful and positive when I took the desk. That is something that can't be said of all PA teams!

Thanks John. That's much appreciated! Julie was the perfect headline act for Saturday evening - I'm very grateful to the two of you for making the effort when you must be so busy!

Cheers

That's funny Hereward - I can't remember me in the 70's onward either! Musta been summat I imbibed!

Yes FolkieDave - Geoff and I from th' current band were in Luigi Ana da Boys back then
(even played an open air fest in a Wakefield Park I remember, Hereward)
- we got a lot of airplay from the late great John Peel in them thar days.....
....and a recent Google search found our old vinyl on sale ont 'net' via a 'collectors site' priced at £1566 quid!!!!
....now where's that spare copy I stashed??? Hey, hey!

Big raps to the landlord of the Abbey - and especially to Wayne for a crackin' first fest attempt
- they were all enjoyin' it on the Friday when we were there. Bless ya - good luck with it next year!

Particularly liked the young man that interrupted our set by comin' an' standin' right in front of my mic....
'D'ya do requests?' he slurred...
'Will ya play Sweet Home Alabama?'... (don't think he'd got the right idea what was on....)
then he changed to ' Go on. play uzz Freebird!!!!'
Funny that! Geoff and I used to get innudated with requests for that back in the 70's....
hang on... how can I remember that, I wasn't there!

Hugs - Duncan McFarlane (who doubtless will not be remembered for the 90's and the new millenium either - ne'er mind, eh?)

T'was indeed a jolly fine festival - I can only comment on the Friday but I'm sure the Saturday was equally as good. The DMF band were tops at the end (don't tell him I said that, his head may swell). Was also really impressed with the Eastwood & Sanders 'Lockkeeper', I think I had a pint or two!

If there's another 'Abbey Fest' next year I'll be volunteering me services. As a performer that is, not as a counsumer of much fine ale.

Meh! the two go together anyway.

Gerry

We're going to have a bit of a chat about the possibility of another festival soon. We're all keen!

I'm so glad that people seem to have had a good time. As one of the organizers all I can focus on are the things that went wrong!

Gerry, send me your details via the Abbey's website - www.theabbey-inn.co.uk and I'll book you in! Alternatively pop down any Tuesday to our weekly session.

Cheers

Wayne

We raised nearly £1000 in bucket donations and Tombola - which is fantastic! Thank you so very much if you contributed!

Yes, well done Wayne!

We really enjoyed the music, seeing so many folk, and all that lovely beer on Friday night and Saturday!

I'll bring the photo's to The Abbey session next Tuesday - hope to see you tonite at Korks for the DmcF electric band gig. I hear they have a 'new boy' on fiddle tonite, it will be fun! Last time I saw Robin Garside, someone had run off with his trousers too so he had to wear a skirt, oops sorry, I mean kilt.

I agree with Gerry, the Eastwood & Sanders 'Lockkeeper' was very tasty! The headbrewer is a fan of the Duncan McFarlane Band too - they must be an inspiration!

Steady now Molly - we've not deliberately targeted brewers as 'fans'!!
(What with Black Sheep being 'on board' 'n' all!)
You'll get us a bad name! hee hee

Cheers - Duncan

Wayne. Should be great. I've done the floorspot at the previous 'Court in Session' gigs and they've been great. Big up to Nick Hall for his tireless effort in promoting these shows.
