07 Jul 06 - 03:42 PM (#1778423) Subject: RE: new Beverley Sessions thread From: Graham and Jo We are just off to the Sun now. They rang the other evening to say they are promoting the always good real ale at £2 a pint. Should be a good night. |
08 Jul 06 - 03:18 AM (#1778762) Subject: RE: new Beverley Sessions thread From: Sir Roger de Beverley Is the £2 a pint on all the time or just Friday night? R |
08 Jul 06 - 03:43 AM (#1778771) Subject: RE: new Beverley Sessions thread From: harpmaker £2, and we think thats cheap. I can remember my first pint of mild in a pub, 22p!...... All the locals where up in arms 'cos the chancellor had just put 2p on a pint after the budget. Ted can remember getting a pint for just 6 jam jars! Even my dad can't remember that far back. (or me grandad!) |
08 Jul 06 - 04:00 AM (#1778783) Subject: RE: new Beverley Sessions thread From: Betsy Apologies , I don't want to get pythonish about this , but I remenber when it was 1/10d. Spoken - was said "0ne and ten" which meant One Shilling and Ten pence. About 9 new pence todays money. Dad said the same as somone else has also remarked "If it goes over Two Bob ( two shillings ) , I'm packing up drinking ",which of course he never did . Speaking of old money ,the most difficult phrase I hit upon as a kid, not using pounds and shillings - only pence, was when I bought 2 bus tickets for me and my mate who were obviously going to different stops. The prices were 11 pence and 10 pence but spoken came out something like "an ellempenny and a tempenny please ". Difficult at the time. Give my regards to Gedpipe will ya ?? Cheers, Betsy |

13 Jul 06 - 05:19 AM (#1782456) Subject: RE: new Beverley Sessions thread From: GUEST,Sir Roger at Work This Sunday, for one week only, we are going to cancel the Sunday session at Hodgson's in Beverley. Most of our regular sessioneers will either be at Kelk or the Humber Bridge 25 bash so it doesn't seem viable to run another event that day. Back in The Sun as usual the following Sunday, 23rd July Roger (and Oombanjo) |
14 Jul 06 - 03:46 PM (#1783633) Subject: RE: new Beverley Sessions thread From: Graham and Jo And Friday as ever of course. Not sure if many will turn up tonight though. We'll be there in about ten minutes. |

25 Jul 06 - 07:24 PM (#1793155) Subject: RE: new Beverley Sessions thread From: Graham and Jo The Sun have said they don't want any more sessions on Friday nights as they have other plans (they have talked about getting bands in). Friday sessions are on hold for the time being. There is no Friday session this Friday. There are strong rumours from several sources that the landlords at the Sun are about to change. They may just be having a do of their own before going. That's why it's not just shifting to somewhere else. We'll see what happens. One possibility discussed is to go out one Friday in a minibus to somewhere as an excursion to have a session. Not this Friday. |
26 Jul 06 - 03:26 PM (#1793866) Subject: RE: new Beverley Sessions thread From: Sir Roger de Beverley Good luck with Fridays. As far as we know Sundays are continuing and we will be there this Sunday from 4pm. R |

30 Jul 06 - 09:20 AM (#1796813) Subject: RE: new Beverley Sessions thread From: Sttaw Legend Take the pool table before they get in then they wont know its missing! |
30 Jul 06 - 05:03 PM (#1797156) Subject: RE: new Beverley Sessions thread From: GUEST went in today and asked about rumours, was told they are going nowhere and was told cancelling Fridays had to be done because she felt it was having an adverse effect on the Friday night custom. She also once again praised the Sunday sessions and said she would like to have us play every Sunday possible if it was possible if you know what I mean |
31 Jul 06 - 03:41 AM (#1797430) Subject: RE: new Beverley Sessions thread From: Sir Roger de Beverley Yes, similar remarks about the sunday session have been made before. However, sunday is a quiet day in the pub and any custom is welcome whereas Friday evening is pretty busy anyway and they don't "need" a session to bring in the trade. The Sun remains, however, a favoured venue amongst the musos for its overall ambience and the acoustics. R |

01 Aug 06 - 08:47 AM (#1798635) Subject: RE: new Beverley Sessions thread From: Hand-Pulled Boy Went in on Saturday night. The Abbotts ale and the guinness were not up to standard so did NOT stay. Hope it's better on Saturday, 12th August as 'cowfisH' will be playing live (Electric format), and will be supported by 'harriWattsband' (probably from 9pm O'clock). It will make a pleasant change from the Rock Covers bands that are always on. |
01 Aug 06 - 09:46 AM (#1798714) Subject: RE: new Beverley Sessions thread From: Paco Rabanne Ged is away today so The Woolpack will be squid free tonight. |
01 Aug 06 - 03:57 PM (#1799112) Subject: RE: new Beverley Sessions thread From: Graham and Jo What had an adverse affect on Friday night custom was the session being squeezed into the snug and having loud music played over it. No one likes different kinds of music at once. We managed to have good sessions despite all and it looks like we got too loud for them. The Sun have missed out. |
02 Aug 06 - 05:31 AM (#1799628) Subject: RE: new Beverley Sessions thread From: ossonflags You are always sure of a great welcome at "Monks Walk" this Sunday!!!! 3.00pmish start |
02 Aug 06 - 08:53 AM (#1799712) Subject: RE: new Beverley Sessions thread From: GUEST It clearly made no sense to have both a live session and recorded "background" music going on at the same time. One of them had to go - unfortunately they chose the wrong one. |

03 Aug 06 - 05:28 PM (#1800871) Subject: RE: new Beverley Sessions thread From: Graham and Jo Tiger Three pubs in Beverley have shown an interest in Friday sessions. No decisions made yet but a one-off session is on in the Tiger for tomorrow (Friday). The beer is excellent and it's cheaper than in the Sun. It would be nice to do something in Oddfellows sometime. The landlords are keen on folk. There use to be a tunes session there on Sundays. |
