Tech: Lost My Library in Sonic Stage

Well, Ollie, I've done it again...

I run periodic scans and deletions through AdAware. I must admit I've gotten rather blase (') about it and stopped scanning each item before I hit Remove.

Yesterday I did it again.

Today I can't find anything on Sonic Stage beyond simple playing from My Library. My Library is not visible but obviously the material is still there or it couldn't play from it. However there are no tabs to click to show My Library.

What do I do? Thanks verily.

Eb

Thanks, Clinton.

I've been running Sonic Stage 3.2- is this a good time to install Sonic Stage 4.?

never having heard of it, I did a search. I see it is a "music management application"..especially to organize music to a VAIO from Sony..etc.

The next thing I read is that there are SO many complaints about it..like here.

Is the major point of it to connect/load/manage portable music? If so, it 'looks' like one might well begin looking for another system, as this seems to to have issues.

(I just burn MP3s onto a CD...but I don't travel much)

If you want to move MP3s to a Sony mini-disk player, you gotta use Sonic Stage....

If you're just using it to manage/play your music library, you're giving yourself unnecessary headaches.... For your computer media library, get Jetaudio....

That's what a couple of the complaining reviews said....Sony had given no choices and hadn't done too well with their product...

I suppose one does need to mess with SS until it's possible to make a real change.

(there ARE other excellent media library programs dbPowerAmp, MediaMonkey, The Godfather. I'm beginning to think The Godfather will do almost anything except play Real Audio. (and I'm willing to have several toys to do different things...*grin*)

I've yet to find a format that JetAudio won't play

Music... vid.... all of it

I use Sonic Stage to create CDs from my Sony HD minidisc recorder. I've not had a problem before- it is easily accessible, is fairly rapid and it stores the cuts in 'My Library' until I delete them. The quality is good.

I suspect this problem stems from deleting cookies and tracking devices through ADAware yesterday afternoon. I had used Sonic Stage as recently as yesterday morning.

I'm assuming that if I uninstall Sonic Stage and then reinstall lit my music library will be gone. That's OK- I have it all on CDs anyway.

My question really pertains to the fact that when I open Sonic Stage now it still plays cuts from the stored music in My Library. That must mean that the library of stored music is still there somewhere- I just don't know what to do to get to it.

Deleting Sonic Stage SHOULDN'T remove the mp3s (or whatever format you use) associated with it....

I installed sonic stage when I got my Mini Disk recorder. I only used it once and when I found I could not use it to edit recordings I had made on the Mini Disk or to upload them to editing software but had to re-record them from the Mini Disk on to the PC I have never used it since.

In my opinion, the absolute best solution to FINDING stuff on your computer is Copernic Desktop Search.   Having it won't take care of your problem with Sonic Stage, BUT it will find all your sound files, not to mention everything else you have on your computer.

FREE
COMPREHENSIVE
NO ADWARE or hidden nasties

We use it at work and couldn't imagine life without it. We tried both Google and Yahoo Desktop Searches, and found them inferior for our use.

Copernic Desktop Search

You will like it. Guaranteed.

Ebbie...if your default storage directory for songs is within a SonicStage directory, then deleting ALL the SS directories might delete the songs, too. You 'should' always know and control where you keep items, then tell programs where that place is...(it 'probably' asked you at installation where to put 'em)....

One of the more important items to have is a 'file manager' (Windows Explorer is one, but there are MUCH better). In this, you can look thru your computer and see exactly where stuff is...(You may know all this, but if you're unsure where those songs are.....) anyway...there are ways to search. Copernic is one, but a separate program is AgentRansack, a dedicated search program for your PC.....Another is FileInvader.

Now, your song files are probably still fine, but some setting has been accidently altered. If you use "my library", I assume it is in the SS folder....how do you usually access it? Thru the SS program? (This is why I am suggesting you look for the files using another route..)

Let us know.....

Well, Ollie... I did it again. sigh

No problem. nada. nuffink.

In my defense this morning when I discovered the 'problem' I was geared toward going to work. Obviously I didn't have my mind focused or at least, not functioning.

A few minutes ago when I got home I brought up Sonic Stage again. This time I noticed a little square that said 'Full Mode'. Clicked on it- and there was My Library.

Humph

Ebbie -

Your original "statement of the problem" implied that you're usually careful to check what AdAware finds to make sure you don't delete something you want to keep. This suggests that you often do find some things to remove from the delete lists(?).

You can add a program that AdAware tags for deletion to an "ignore" list in AdAware, and once the program is on the list AdAware will NOT report it and try to delete it. This avoids the need to keep scanning the list everytime you run AdAware - which might perhaps make it more likely that you'll update and run more often(?).

Also - although AdAware probably wouldn't delete your music files in this case, as common as "deviant malware" is, there's the possibility of running into something that needs a "special program" for cleanup. A program new to you always runs the risk of doing something unexpected, and often "removal" of malware involves deleting whole program folders. This means you would lose your downloaded music files if they're in the program folder for something that "got infected." It's thus a good idea to backup the downloaded files somewhere else, in a different-named folder, and/or to CD - just on principle.

Thanks, John. Since I don't download music from the Net all of my music is already on CDs that I create myself. The only way I vary from that is if it's in an interim, for instance, if I'm in the process of choosing only a few cuts from a CD in order to compile several CDs into one.

But of course you are right. AdAware gives me the options of quarantining, ignoring or removing material. Most of the stuff it comes up with is considered benign, rather than virus related. I think I'll start keeping things in quarantine for awhile before throwing it away- especially if I don't want to take the time to make a decision at the moment.

Bill, I like that- that's smooth!
