There are short videos of quite a few well known folk performers - so far I've found The Copper Family, Karine Polwart, Christy Moore, Dylan, Jim Croce and Tim Buckley plus a whole range of people I've not heard of. There are also videos of folk music from non english- speaking cultures, as well as Morris and Molly dancers. It looks like it downloads slower than the player plays it so it doesn't stream properly. But if you hit the pause button and let the light grey progress bar progress a little - say half way across - and then press play it might work. It did for me. |

Go to Youtube and find the video you want. On the page of the video is a URL Copy the URL and go to youtubex.com and paste the URL into the box Download the file and save it to your disk. Once downloaded rename in to whatever you want. ????.flv How do you play an flv file? Go to flv player and use what's there. There are other playrs you can download but this particular one allows full screen and some other options. And that's about it. Goodness knows why they stream it all - it apparently currently costs $1m+ a month. I trust the ads are enough to keep it going! |

It sounds like something my kids have been fidding with for some time now. They sit hunched over the computer, gales of laughter erupt as some funny video plays. The advantage of downloading to disk is that when the video gets removed from Youtube, you can still watch it. I wish I had done that with the videos I posted up on the Youtube Permathread, almost all of which have been removed for various reasons. |
