He said that you were having trouble locating the Transatlantic Session CD,s I got mine from: ROOTS MUSIC 9 DERWENT STREET SUNDERLAND, SR1 3NT Tel. 0191 5670196. They were very helpfull and put the records in the post with an invoice and I didn't have to pay until they arrived. If this was your request then I hope this helps. regards Baz. |

25 Feb 99 - 07:26 PM (#60277) Subject: RE: IAN HP. Re. Mike Harding prog. From: alison Hi guys, Is this the same Mike Harding who used to be on TV BBC2... doing jokes, story telling and singing? If so ... do you know if he has done any recordings? Or written any books? I did a search but couldn't find anything. Mike Harding was the first person I ever heard do "The Band played waltzing Matilda"... I cried my eyes out....... unfortunately the song has been done to death now..... Slainte alison |

26 Feb 99 - 03:56 AM (#60351) Subject: RE: IAN HP. Re. Mike Harding prog. From: Steve Parkes Yes, Alison - it's the same one. I know he's made records and written books, but I can't tell you what they are - but someone out there can ... I do know he wrote a thriller about a fourteen pound budgie, which was very entertaining but not musical; he also wrote the foreword to the UK version of a US book, a collection of railroad disaster songs (don't know the name of this either!). How do I ever remember all those songs when I'm singing? Er ... Steve |

26 Feb 99 - 08:27 AM (#60377) Subject: RE: Re. Mike Harding prog. From: Philippa Alison - Mike Harding currently has an hour Wed. nights on BBC Radio 2 (the usual folk slot, 8-9 pm.). So if you're ever back this way, you can listen. Harding did a tv series cycling round Ireland with his mandolin and meeting old-timers and hearing/playing music. Once I cycled with a fiddle tied on top of the panier bags (not great for the instrument, but I was lucky) and someone shouted to me as i passed, "Mike Harding went thataway!" |

28 Feb 99 - 10:10 AM (#60693) Subject: RE: IAN HP. Re. Mike Harding prog. From: Dr John He sings on Deepest Lancashire: excellent CD from Topic. BBC programme is dreadful - don't bother listening to it. It's now (as justification) called folk, roots and acoustic music. Bring back Jim Lloyd I say! |

28 Feb 99 - 12:29 PM (#60710) Subject: RE: IAN HP. Re. Mike Harding prog. From: Ian HP Dr. John, I couldn't agree more. Many a time I have waited an hour to hear a trad. song played either a) at all! or b) sympathetically. Many a time I have waited in vain (there must be a song in there somewhere). I have to say he has got better of late, but still, nothing like the wonderful Jim Lloyd. Does anyone know what Jim is doing nowadays? |
