That's what most people are saying... looks like I'll be playing to myself...!

I dunno... the lengths people will go to trying to avoid me!

Infamy... they've all got it in for me!

Eric... I'm known on Mudcat by that name, which also happens to be my real name... people who don't know who I am are only a click away from finding out...

seems like an adulterated pice of self publicity to me. Are you going? No or little response. Who are you? Little or no response. Where you there? Little or no response. What did you think? Little or no response but lets "refresh" anyway.

Sorry Bernard

Geoff

Er...webfolk, do you mean 'unadulterated'? If not, with what is the self-publicity adulterated? If you're going to be sniffy, at least try to be grammatically correct.

I quite agree with Guest of 6th August. 'Webfolk' should not be so sniffy about Bernard who is, after all, only using Mudcat for one of the purposes it's admirably suited for - i.e. publicising appearances by folk artists wherever and whenever they are. It's not, surely, Bernard's fault that he had little response to his enquiries. I use Mudcat myself to publicise Salt Town Promotions and other stuff and there isn't always a big response. So what?
I took the trouble to follow up Bernard's links and he is obviously a seasoned and highly popular performer. Good on you, Bernard; I hope all went well for you in Northwich.

Thanks, 'Webfolk', for giving Northwich Folk Club some well-deserved publicity!

The gig's this coming Friday (August 11th), and you'll need to get there early if you want a seat - the place will be packed.

Give us your web site, Geoff. Nothing wrong with a piece of self publicity. Not sure about adultery but blowing your own trumpet is fine here:-)

Don't have one? Guess you don't produce a radio show either? Hmmmm. Surely you aren't going to prove that the old adage is true? Those that can't do, critisize;-)

Cheers

Now you've mentioned it, Dave (thanks for your support - I shall always wear it!), here's the link...

Anyone who has been following the Saddleworth threads will know that Ali has been seriously unwell, but is making excellent progress (though not in her opinion!!). She had a life saving emergency operation a couple of weeks ago, and is still in considerable pain.

I'm presenting the programme as well as producing it in the meantime, but Ali will be back, never fear!!

It's OK Bernard. You need all the help you can get...;-)

Now when are you coming back to Swinton? I have been promising my daughter to put her off Queen Eleanors Confession for ages.

Bernard.
Happy to keep your thread alive and I hope the gig goes well.
Dave the Gnome.
I do, and frequently
GUEST
It is easy, from the anonymous position of a 'guest,' to criticise both grammar, (we are not all perfect and can make mistakes, to mock is not exactly helpful when what was intended was obvious) and content. I was laughing at Bernard's lack of response, not his self publicity, which I felt was more than justified. We all do it, and need to. I did not follow this thread, until I found myself being criticised, again anonymously, by presumably, though not neccesarily, the same GUEST on another thread.
Bernard
If I were able to be there I would be, to introduce myself, to share some stories and a beer, and network in the best Mudcat tradition.

Good lad, Geoff:-) Well done for coming back and explaining. It's not easy sometimes but it is far better publicity than antagonising a radio presenter;-)

Not that Bernard would do anything nasty. Apart from crimes against the eardrums with huge bellows that is...

Thanks, one and all - especially Geoff, who was only having a bit of fun!

We look like having a full house tonight, but don't let that put you off coming... if necessary, we can switch to the theatre (the club usually meets in the bar).

Where is it?

Lots of apologies in the thread, including mine, for not being able to be there I mean.
Break a leg, a string, a reed,

Have a good one and thanks.

Yes, good luck Bernard. Sorry about getting the gig date wrong. Looking back over this thread I reckon that part of the problem was that Bernard was being a bit low-key and unnecessarily modest at the beginning. Lights hidden under bushels and all that.

Low key? Unnecessarily modest? Can I quote you on that, Dave? Those words don't usually appear in the same sentence (or book!) as me!! ;o)

Hee hee hee hee hee...!! I'm off to Northwich, now!

What an enjoyable night that was! It's a good job so many people were on holiday, there just wouldn't have been room!

Charlotte Peters-Rock ('compere') and Nick & Lin Tysoe did a sterling support job! And what a lovely audience!
