Song challenge, Fee, Fie, Fo, Fum

OK, the game is that you write a song.

The first verse uses the first message from the threads Fee, Fie, Fo, Fum.

And the second verse uses the second message and so on.

I've deliberately left the first messages blank so that I don't influence your song.

Feel free to post messages that you can use in your verses but only one per person please.

Go for it.

I should have said "The first POPULATED message"

Hi Guest,

The original was from Jack and the Beanstalk.

Fee, Fie, Fo, Fum,
I smell blood of an Englishman
be he alive or be he dead
I'll grind his bones to make my bread.

I was trying to start a song challenge by making up verses from messages in four different threads, but someone didn't catch on and combined the threads which spoiled the whole thing.

If they would perhaps put them back as they were then we might just be able to get it to work.

perhaps if you had stated your purpose first rather then afterwards there wouldn't have been any confusion.

and, if you will pardon my saying so - really dumb idea.

MMMMMario,

The purpose was stated BEFORE the threads were combined.

I couldn't state the purpose in the four separate threads because the whole idea was that the posts to THOSE threads would be spontaneous. I'm sorry that that caused you some confusion.

Why would such a song challenge be dumb? It is no more than an on line extension to the Limerick party game.

It could have been fun had some over officious editor not combined the threads.

A perfectly good song challenge was completely destroyed because some editor's sticky fingers were not connected to his brain.

sorry, Bert, but it WAS sorta dumb silly in this context. Since the 4 threads could appear in any location, depending on the reader, and since you'd get random posts with little continuity, and since there would be some folks reading the 4 posts BEFORE seeing the thread explaining, and think it was just nonsense, the whole premise made sense only if you understood it previously.

This is the internet, and attention span and 'focus time' are limited. A game that could be played in a room with people being attentive is really hard to get across in print, when the print keeps moving.

Blaming some "...some over officious editor" because your awkward scheme was bewildering is bordering on petty. You have had kind of a "burr under your saddle" about the editing team and setup.

........we have LOTS of dares, teases, quizzes and games which DO work fine in this type of forum. Try something a bit less convoluted, and I'll bet you get a much better response.

Yes Bill,

...there would be some folks reading the 4 posts BEFORE seeing the thread...

That was kinda the idea, to get some random element into the process.

But as Tom Paxton wrote "Every song in my breast dies a borning"

And ...Try something a bit less convoluted...

Yes I guess you're right; to expect Mudcatters to count to four seems to have been overdoing it.

My doctor says it's good that I have finally found a website where I can indulge in discussions that don't involve neo-fascism, white supremacy and blunt objects, but I've been walking him through some of the posts here of the last few days and he's just left, shaking his head and mumbling something about how there just might be a place for senseless violence after all.

bert- I meant stated your challenge before you started the fee fie fo fum threads. According to the time stamps you started them first.

MMario,

The explanation thread was posted LAST so's it would be on the top of the list so folks would see it first.
