25 Jul 06 - 06:29 PM (#1793112) Subject: BS: Out of the hospital From: RangerSteve It's over. First I'd like to thank everyone who offerered me prayers and kind thoughts for my experience. It helped alot. I now have two tubes sticking out of my collar bone area and fortunately they're covered up so I can't see them. I can't go swimming or stand under the shower head. But I can stand for long periods of time, which I couldn't do before and my swollen legs are about normal size now. Regular dialysis starts on Thursday and goes three days a week. I have to get up at 6am for it, which is something I thought I'd never have to do again now that I'm retired, but I guess I can go back to sleep at the dialysis center. Thanks, again for your support. Steve |

26 Jul 06 - 04:42 AM (#1793446) Subject: RE: BS: Out of the hospital From: gnu Glad to hear you are feeling better. Thanks for the update. No standing under the shower head! That sucks big time. Can't you plug them with chewing gum or something? |
26 Jul 06 - 08:43 AM (#1793587) Subject: RE: BS: Out of the hospital From: RangerSteve The tubes are plugged up and wrapped up, but where they go under my skin can't get wet. That area is also covered, but I can't take the chance. I have a hand-held attachment on my shower, so I can spray the rest of me, from my chest down. Eventually, they'll put an entry under my skin in my wrist, then the tubes can come out. A kidney trnasplant is in the future, but as that involves someone dying, refuse to think about it. My swollen feet are down to normal size now. The extra wide slippers that I bought to accomodate them are too big, and today, while coming down stairs, I actually stepped out of them. My appetite is back, too. I think I'll go and celebrate at Cracker Barrel for breakfast. Thanks again for all your thoughts and prayers. Steve |
26 Jul 06 - 08:51 AM (#1793592) Subject: RE: BS: Out of the hospital From: Ella who is Sooze Steve. Glad to hear things are going well. Dad has the arm fistula and copes fine with that now. He's just had a huge op to remove a large tumor and we now hope that he can go on to the transplant list. He's been pretty rough over the last month or so and it's been worrying. Make sure the dialysis people keep an eye on your dry weight with your appetite coming back then it is likely to change sometimes. Wishing you the very best of luck, and fingers crossed for your journey ahead. My dad is somewhat further along his journey and we are hoping he has a second chance soon. Be prepared for ups and downs along the way, but most of all keep your chin up, they are usually resolvable. And for want of a better phrase, keep on top of those doctors with the questions, observations and nag nag nag them! yours, ever the optimist (you have to be!) EWIS. |
