30 Jul 06 - 01:42 PM (#1797022) Subject: Has anyone seen my Martin guitar? From: Fincara My beloved 1934 little mahogany body Martin guitar is missing. I'd rather not go into the details of what happened, but I would desperately like to know who has it. It is distinguished by a pick guard with the name Laurence Stanek engraved on it by hand (unless someone removed the pick guard...?) If anyone has come into contact with this instrument or knows where it might be, or who has it, please contact me. I am heart broken by the loss. My guitar was handed off to someone in Chicago without my knowledge, about 15 years ago. Any information would be very much appreciated. Thanks. |

30 Jul 06 - 04:11 PM (#1797119) Subject: RE: Has anyone seen my Martin guitar? From: Fincara no..never wrote it down...never expected this to happen. someone i trusted gave my guitar to someone else. it's that simple. i was in shock. asked where it was but i was not told. a big mess. by the year of production and the unique pick guard, i just thought that someone might have run across it or know who has it. can't imagine that there are that many 1934 martin guitars with the name of Laurence Stanek on the pick guard??? it was allegedly given to a student at the Old Town School of Folk Music. i am sick just talking about it... |

Good luck on finding it. Watch places like ebay to see if someone tries to sell it. Do you have contact with any of the people you knew from back then who might "fess" up, now? All the best, kat |

If it's any comfort to you, I had a Rickenbacker 4-string fretless bass stolen back in the late 80s. It was one of the best basses I've ever had. God, what I wouldn't give to have it back. You look for my Rick and I'll keep my eyes peeled for your Martin. |

17 Mar 11 - 10:48 PM (#3116192) Subject: RE: Has anyone seen my Martin guitar? From: GUEST,Duffus Bigelo I saw your guitar being played by a blind monkey in Maui last summer. I heard that this monkey originally fronted a band from Chicago about 15 years ago, so the timing seems correct. The band was Gongo and the Surf-Rats . But when I saw this same band at the Lahina Hotel Bar last summer they had changed their name to Lauren & Stan Review. I remember this old Martin he played had the pick guard looked like it had a few letters scraped off. I remember the pick guard read Lauren & Stan Band. If you added (en to the Lauren) then added a (&) in the middle and then added (ek) to the Stan you would get Laurence Stanek. WOW this is too weird. I bet this monkey swiped your Martin Flattop...oh DUDE!!!! Whoa! I'd get to Maui and kick that monkeys rear end for sure....then again he might bite your fingers off and you wouldnt be able to enjoy playing ANY guitar! This makes me sick. |

From: Big Al Whittle I once lost a sock in similar circumstances. what I do now is buy black pairs of socks. then if a sock gets lost - you pair the sock that has lost its partner, up with another sock that has lost its partner. I got this idea from a jasper carrot monologue - he had a martin guitar - who knows, perhaps it was yours. |
09 Mar 14 - 09:26 PM (#3608612) Subject: RE: Has anyone seen my Martin guitar? From: ChanteyLass About a week ago, United Airlines lost singer/songwriter/storyteller/humorist/2-time Grammy award winner Bill Harley's Martin 000C-16RGTE guitar at O'Hare International Airport. The serial number is 1057778. It's got a clear plastic pick guard on the upper left hand bout and a slight crack running from saddle to bottom. Also missing is a very classy green Hoffe fiberglass case (CA 100GC) with a gray Small Dog case cover. So far, United has been unresponsive. If you tweet, Bill has asked you send this message, "@United where's Bill Harley's guitar?" |

09 Mar 14 - 11:09 PM (#3608627) Subject: RE: Has anyone seen my Martin guitar? From: Don Firth United Airlines used to be fine with guitars. I flew UAL several times with my guitar and they always put a "special handling" tag on the case and a flight attendant carried It on board and stowed it securely in the coat closet. But that was in the 1950s and things have sure changed since then!! The last time I flew with my guitar, they insisted that it had to go in with the regular baggage. A few years before, they had bent the frame of my wheelchair, but a few loud threats and they paid for a new wheelchair. This time, I did what Segovia, a few other concert guitarist—and cellists—do. I bought a child's fare for my guitar and strapped it in the seat beside them. Don Firth |

From: GUEST,Shayleen The best acoustic guitar setup i have ever had on my Gibson SJ200 was done by Charlie Chandler's Guitar Experience, Hampton Wick. 10 Apr 14 - 07:19 PM (#3617391) Subject: RE: Has anyone seen my Martin guitar? From: GUEST,Shayleen That's Hampton Wick in London by the way. 11 Apr 14 - 02:53 PM (#3617676) Subject: RE: Has anyone seen my Martin guitar? From: GUEST,Shayleen Looked the word up. You're quite mistaken. I'm merely letting you know where i have had good guitar setups and bad ones in the hope it will benefit others. There is no other agenda. It isn't nice to pay for a setup only to be disappointed by the results, so i do what i can to point out good and bad shops. Should i not? :) |

The guy seems a little sketchy so I came here to see about checking out registration. I have also had a beautiful irreplaceable guitar stolen.....my Starfire, distinguished by the funky thing my cousin did to my pick guard back in 1972. My Panther bass was sitting right next to it so I am almost 100% sure who nabbed it. Some ppl r just scrum. I do hope your guitar finds its way home to you. |
