31 Jul 06 - 03:33 PM (#1798031) Subject: Origins: songs of ramblin jack elliott/dvd w/arlo From: GUEST i have this dvd made by homespun video....its a great dvd with jack playing alot of old songs and ramblin about them...its hosted by arlo....i know some of you on here has to own or at least seen this...what i want to know is? there is this song called "call me a dog" it says in the tabs with the dvd its a traditional song...i have searched and can not find this song...does anyone know? |

The earliest recording is likely the 1929 version by Dick Justice. You may recall hearing him if you've listened to The Anthology of American Folk Music, since his version of Henry Lee (Child Ballad no. 68) was the very first song. The next year in 1930, Bayless Rose recorded a version of Black Dog Blues with quite a few stanzas. |
