It has a web site driffieldfolkfestival.co.uk and Margie's number is down as a contact re camping etc. It sounds as though it could be a good weekend with some singing so I'm going to emigrate/elevate up there! |

From: Carol Yes it was disappointing - we came home on Saturday afternoon - sorry I'm allergic to Ceilidhs, my walking stick doesn't 'go ' with them! Anyhow I went to hear others singing and sing myself. Still it meant I got to the Chapeltown session on the Monday for a few hours. Also going to try the Minerva in hull on Saturday before we go exploring Flanders on the Sunday. |

From: Nick Got something of a singaround going in the Falcon on late Saturday afternoon but it was noisy and quite hard work. I think things were probably spread across too many venues without there being enough people there. I got there early Saturday afternoon but couldn't find anything going on in any pub other than the Tiger garden where there was a stage. |

From: GUEST,The Tiger Inn Hi, I'm new to the forum but would just like to add a few things to keep you upto speed with this years Fest, we have had a marvelous weekend and a great turn out from our regulars who welcomed it very warmly. We also had a great many new faces who came to listen and play. Friday evening kicked off at The Bluebell, with a full house in the Concert/Function room. With a great Tombolla and the Towns Mayor opening the event. Then around 10pm the first of the session players arrived at our Pub, we had about 14 musicians playing together and some wondefull singers plus about twenty of our regulars who joined in with the fun.We finished at around 3am. Saturday saw the Market Square outdoor gig at 11am, then at 12 noon our outdoor gig started in the beergarden, we have a decked area with a marquee erected. Around 20 musicians and singers got on that stage at one time or another through out the next 5 hours, we also had a BBQ (free) with donations taken to help get funding for next years fest,we fed about 150 guests and raised over £75.Saturday afternoon also saw a few sessions taking place in our snug room. Saturday evening was also another great evening with sessions starting at around 10pm and going on into the small hours again. Sunday evening was a much different type of evening but very enjoyable, with some very memorable stuff from some wonderfull musicians. All in all i would say a great weekend. Its a new fest and will improve with time and also because next year we hope to have double the pubs taking part. 3 last year 6 this year, so give it a try. Roll on 2007. A big thanks to Margie, and her commitee, who worked very hard to achieve this. They have very busy work shedules and still managed to pull off a great event. |

There was a good turn out in the Tiger when I was there on Saturday afternoon. Not everyone wants to stand up and sing on a stage though, and one of the attractions of these folk things is the ability to find a relatively quiet spot to sing or play. I went into the Falcon about 2ish and found one musician there who had had a wander about but found nothing to get involved with; I then tried the Tiger which had the stage underway; the Blue Bell where there were no musicians; and The Stag (similar). So I returned to the Falcon where there was now no-one and then to the Tiger. Later on a number of us went to the Falcon and battled the noise - the locals were pleasant enough but the racing was more of an attraction I think. Went to the Blue Bell later but it was full of people eating and not ready to be set up; listened to a solitary singer (the chap I had originally seen in the Falcon). Perhaps it might be an idea to seed the odd person who sings into the pubs that would welcome singarounds or sessions to encourage people to stop and stay and sing. Walking into a pub empty of singers (or any sign of) makes it quite hard to start things up on one's own. Alternatively to organise a singaround for a specific time in a specific place and publicise it accordingly. Just my tuppence worth. Good luck for next year. |

From: mississippi john plenty of opportunitities to get up and sing on the stage at the tiger beer garden saturday afternoon, weather was dull to start with, but came out sunny mid-afternoon, was great just to sit in the sun have a drink & listern to the world go by. had a session in the front room of the tiger about 5o/c had to cope with some of the local dominoe players, even they joined in with the singing ( dominoes in hand ) went through on the sunday afternoon, very quite had a bit of a jamming session with a couple of the guys from the trio that had appeared on the saturday afternoon at the tiger would be nice if the driffield folk club had a few more people turnning up at their monday night sessions all the best for the future Margie & committee members regards m/ j |
