Go further East, and you get to Drumheller, where there is a fabulous Paleontology museum out in the Badlands. South East, and you can go to the Franks Slide or Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump. Loads to do and see, and Calgary is a fun town, not just at Stampede time. Tim |

Within an hour or two drive from Cochrane there's heaps of stuff. What are you looking for? We got culture, we got nature, we got scenery, we got the truck from Brokeback Mountain. Well, we had it; I think someone bought it. We got good grammar, we got great music festivals & folk clubs |

Here's a link to folk stuff: Calgary Folk Listings We got museums: Scroll down for the Gopher Hole Museum. That Gopher Hole museum is further east, though, geographically, and way off the map aesthetically. Also check out MacKay's ice cream in Cochrane. Used to be a Sunday ritual to drive out there from Calgary. Half an hour up the road in Water Valley is the Water Valley Celtic festival every June. Banff is around an hour west of Cochrane. Panoramic vistas to be sure, but also the Banff Centre for the Arts is there, with scads of interesting programming and concerts. Canmore is a bit closer, and the folk fest there (coming up this weekend, is a great little celebration in a beautiful setting. Canmore has the Highland games coming up in the fall. Mass pipes playing Amazing Grace in a swirling mountain rainstorm. Fills the heart. Also, we got hockey. And oil money. Lots and lots of oil money. |

If Google Earth is right about the address, they will be living in what looks like a suburban development of houses in gardens on an estate of windy roads just east of the town. Maybe just the season when the photo was taken, but it looks very dry and brown. Graham can get very thirsty when Sarah isn't quick enough to stop him. Distances look huge- what's it like hiring a car or van over there? |

You will find rental rates and fuel costs quite reasonable even though we're currently freakin out about the latter (at least in Ontario, today $1.10 - 1.15/ litre). It is definitely the way to get around, unfortunately the public transit system isn't what it should be in this country. Now, WHICH "truck from Brokeback Mountain" is or was in Cochrane? If they assembled a few of them they probably could sell tickets. |

Music content - Ten minutes north of Bragg Creek, where Highway 8 connects to the 22, you will find Kamp Kiwanis, home in the spring and fall to the Foothills Acoustic Music camp.
