Obit: Jazz Great, Rufus Harley (Aug 06)

I, sadly, report the death of pioneer jazz bagpiper, Rufus Harley. Unable to tour, these last few years, Rufus stayed and played in his beloved Philadelphia where he was revered and loved. I was honored to know him and, occasionally, share a stage with him. He was an unusual man with an unusual way of seeing the world. He was unchanged by fame, unaltered by circumstance.

Mike, I live just across the Walt Whitman from you. I am sad to hear this because Rufus was one I had hoped to meet before I leave the area. God be good to him.

Sorry to hear it Mike. I jammed with Rufus a couple of times.
A nice and talented man.

I'm sorry to hear about the passing of Eufus Harley.

May he rest in peace, and may Jazz keep on keepin on.

Also, Mike, your eulogy is wonderful writing. In particular, its last two lines makes me sad that I didn't have the opportunity to know and see and hear this man.
