Tab Req: The Humpback Whale (Nic Jones)

I've been looking everywhere for the correct tab for Nic Jones' version of "The Ballina Whalers"... he called it "The Humpback Whale"... i've worked out a way to play it in normal tuning but it loses all the trebley goodness. I'm not entirely sure that it's in an alternate tuning.. it just sounds like it.

If anyone has the correct tab/tuning for this track please let me know.

thanks in advance.

Jeff

I think it's in C Modal (C,G,C,G,C,D).

Hip Flask Andy is the resident C Modal expert and I guess he'll know a bit more.

The Nic Jones version of Humpback Whale can be easily replicated by using DADGAD. Use a pick to create his rhythm style. Harry Robertson wrote and recorded the song and did not receive proper credit on the LP Penguin Eggs. Still, Nic's version is exciting and well executed.

Hey folks,

I think the tuning that Nic was using is actually CGCGCC.

I would live to find more tabs for his work - the more I listen to Nic, the more I hear his influence on the 'British School' of players that have come along since. Wonderfully percusive playing...

Cheers -

David

It's kind of C modal but Nic Jones dropped it lower so it's B flat modal! Same as a Canadee-i-o.

Bb-F-Bb-F-Bb-C
