Subject: Woody Rediscovered
From: Suffet

Greetings:

WOODY REDISCOVERED is a musical exploration of Woody Guthrie's lesser known songs that Anne Price and I developed over the past two years. We have already presented it four times, most recently at Amherst College this past January. After an 8-month hiatus, we will be presenting it again at the end of next month. Here are the details

A Foklore Society of Greater Washington Special Event...

WOODY REDISCOVERED
an Exploration of Woody Guthrie's Lesser Known Songs
with Steve Suffet and Anne Price

Saturday • September 30, 2006 • 8:00 to 10:30 PM
at the home of Kathie Mack • 7208 Maple Avenue • Takoma Park, MD
3 blocks from the Takoma Park Metro station.
Admission by contribution. Suggested donation: $15.

There are more than 3,000 songs in the Woody Guthrie Archives, and Woody recorded well over 300 of them. However, only about 30 are well known today. In this house concert style workshop, Anne Price and I will introduce you to a few of Woody Guthrie's other 2,970+ songs. Some were recorded or published in Woody's own lifetime; others were discovered among his effects after his death. All deserve to be recognized as the gems that they are. We will have song sheets available, so come prepared to learn some new old songs!

For reservations, information about space availability, or directions by Metro or by driving, please contact Kathie Mack by e-mail or phone her at 301-270-5367. For additional information about this event or about the Folklore Society of Greater Washington in general, please visit their website http://www.fsgw.org/ or phone Charlie Baum at 301-589-6855.

Anne and I will then present WOODY REDISCOVERED in New York City on Sunday, December 17, 2006, in a house concert style workshop sponsored by the New York Pinewoods Folk Music Club. We will post the details once they have been finalized.

If you are interested in having us present WOODY REDISCOVERED in your own town, please contact me by e-mail or phone me at 718-786-1533.

Anne and I hope to meet many Mudcatters on September 30, and then again on December 17.

--- Steve Suffet

The concert in Takoma Park was a big success, and I want to thank Kathie Mack and the Washington Society for having us. There is a treasure-trove of Guthrie songs which few people have heard and it's a joy to bring them to light. If you're in New York on December 17 I hope we can share these songs with you.

Greetings:

Anne Price and I have been developing Woody Rediscovered over the past several years. At first, it was just a jam session into which we injected some of Woody's less known songs and mixed them in with his better known pieces. We still do that from time to time! In fact, we will be leading that type of Woody Guthrie jam session at the upcoming 2006 NOMAD Festival on Saturday, November 4, at 7:00 PM. That's at Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven, CT. So maybe we will see some of our Mudcat buddies there.

Meanwhile, please believe us when we say seating is strictly limited at our Brooklyn gig on December 17. Four seats have already been reserved, but there are still a dozen available, and maybe we can squeeze in one or two more, but that's all. So if you want to make sure we'll have a place for you, please call Anne or me sooner rather than later. Our phone numbers are found two messages earlier.

Thanks.

Greetings:

As of now all 16 seats have been reserved for our December 17, 2006, presentation of Woody Rediscovered in Brooklyn, NY. Anne Price and I are looking into the possibility of adding a second show starting at 7:00 PM, but first we need approval from our hosts as well as from the sponsor. I will post updated information as soon as I have it.

If any Mudcatters would like us to bring Woody Rediscovered to their locale, please contact me by e-mail rather than PM. Right now we are working on perfromances in Philadelphia, PA, and Binghamton, NY, in 2007.

Greetings:

As I wrote above, all 16 seats have been reserved for our December 17, 2006, presentation of Woody Rediscovered in Brooklyn, NY. There are also four names on the wait list as of this morning. Unfortunately, Anne Price and I are unable to add a second performance on that date.

We will, however, present Woody Rediscovered again in New York City some time during the coming year, either in the spring or else early the following fall, and possibly in a different borough, perhaps Queens or the Bronx. Maybe even Staten Island. (Manhattan is too easy!)
