I always believed that it was a Doc Watson song and while a search of his discography does produce a song on one of his albums called Travelin Man it is a different song. A Google lyrics and Mudcat song list search did not produce what I am looking for. I have no idea where I found this song or who wrote or performed it but here are the lyrics that I remember... Oh lord I am A travelin man And my daddy So was he And every night When the sun goes down Oh my lord I must be free Well listen to the sound Of the pouring rain And listen to the wail Of the south bound train It's a lonely sound And a lonely sight I'm a lonely man On a lonely night. I don't have the lyrics available (here at work) but you may try cross referencing the Gents to get the words. Also, the title on the album may have been something like 'Travelling Kind' not 'man'. -btmp |

Both are attributed to Pink Anderson, I believe. Paul Geremia recorded "Travelin' Man" on his first LP (remember LPs?), "Just Enough." |

Same with "Rigs of the Time," another song that's being discussed currently. It's humbling, since I'm able to carry most tunes pretty well. Confusion may come from the title "Traveling Kind" as opposed to "Travelin' Man" which is a song by Ricky Nelson. Steve Young is the writer, also known for "Seven Bridges Road". |

Roy Book Binder perfomrs country-blues songster Pink Anderson's version of the song "Travelin' Man" and uses a logo depicting it as his symbol on his vehicle. |

Charlies son Randy now does it with the Country Gentlemen. When Charlie recourded it it was call Travelin' Kind.
