Dick Frost - Buckinghamshire singer

Can anyone tell me more about Dick Frost and his songs - presumably from the Buckinghamshire area? I recently heard of him through a friend, and strikes me as someone worth listening to.

I gather he had a double-CD recorded at the former High Wycombe folk club. Can anyone tell me more?

IF you can get to PJ O'Reilly's in Marlow Bottom this evening , or ANY Wednesday evening ,Dick is still in fine voice at the Folk Club there . PM me for more info - I will probably be over there myself this evening , as Uxbridge is closed till next month .

More about Dick Frost?

Gentleman, scholar, damn fine singer, and a good friend for thirty something years. The double CD was recorded in 1999, and is called Dick Frost 'Live at Wycombe Folk Club', which just about tells the story. (Some said it should have been called 'Lives at Wycombe Folk Club'. I don't know if it is still available, though.

What more can we tell you?

cheers

Brian

(Occasional) Mudcatter trayton did the recording and if you PM him he may be able to tell you about availability. Otherwise follow Leadfingers advice above and talk to Paul there, who arranged it all.

Fair to say you fellahs aren't talking about Colorado's Dick Frost, also a musician.:-)

Is there a site where we can hear song samples of the gentleman you are talking about?

Thanks,

kat

Leadfingers put a copy of Dick Frosts double CD in the silent auction at last years Getaway and I was the (very) lucky winner,I have been drinking with and meeeting Dick for about 20 years at Towersey and a Nicer gentler man you couldnt care to meet, he is a fine singer and a good cartoonist also, for many years at Towersey he posted a daily cartoon on the wall outside the showerblock, always topical, and always gently(or sometimes not so gently) poking fun at Folkies and what was going on.Truly a Man for all seasons

I still have a couple of those very cartoons, one he did especially for Manitas and I on the occaision of my hen party at Towersey that year.

Not been too well of late years, but still around and hopefully will be at Towersey again next weekend.

Just back from PJ O'Relly's - Dick WAS there and in good voice , as always !! The CD is currently 'Out of Stock' but I am sure IF there is sufficient interest another pressing could be organised !

Brian is spot on.

There are 15 tracks on each of the CDs, mainly trad, though including Peatbog Soldiers, Bring us a Barrel, and WC Fields' The Fatal Glass of Beer.

Cllr,

I've only just got back from WHFF, and read your question. No, Dick is not going to the Wail this year. Despite offers of lifts, gentle persuasion, and threats of kidknapping, he has declined. He is hoping to get to Towersey though.

Ah yes, the cartoons. I'm still awaiting my Royalties cheque for appearing in a few!! But each time I try and get my revenge, I come off worse again.

I e-mailed Gadaffi. He was at Towersey, but managed to miss Dick singing in the barn. He did get to talk to Trayton though.

I am seriously hacked off that Dick isn't comimng to the Wareham Wail, and I would urge Dave Sanderson to kidnap him!

We had an email from Karen Hemmingham, co-organiser of the Marlow Accoustic Music Club this morning which may interest people....

"We are reissing limited copies of Dick Frost's CD. They will be £10 for the double CD containing 29 songs. If anyone would like a copy reserved please can they either phone or email me - email via Marlow-acoustic club website which they can link to through the Maidenhead Folk Club site. Many thanks"

Feel free to PM me if anyone has any difficulty linking to either of those sites.

Tony

PS: I should point out that we are booking Dick early in the New Year!

there must be a joke about brass monkeys there, too, if only I could think of it...

The Brass Monkeys always seem to hide (very sensibly) when Frost's about.

Didn't Dick sit on the bench as a magistrate somewhere back in the mists of time? At least that's what he told me when I met him at Wycombe in the '80's...
