Seeking Chasse Maree chantey books

Does anyone know of a U.S. distributor for the 5 volume series of French chantey books published in France by Chasse-Maree? Didn't see one on a net search. You might be a better net searcher, though. Or, does anyone have any used copies you're willing to sell? Thanks, 'Catters, for any info.

best,

Chanteyranger

Hi Peter
Have you tried E-Bay? I've picked up some nice shanty collections there.
Good Luck

Chasse-Maree books available from Friends of San Francisco Maritime Museum. Several are listed at abebooks.com (insert Chasse Maree in keyword blank).

I think Chanteyranger is looking for a specific set of their books.
Only one offering at Abebooks may fit what he is looking for- Musique bretonne, 1996, by a French bookseller, at $101.74.
(Found by keywords Chasse Maree, chanson)

Thanks, folks! I've already checked Abebooks and bookfinder.com, but prices can be prohibitive. Q, I think you meant "Friends of the San Francisco Maritime Library." I occasionally check their sale shelf, but haven't found them. Since you've seen something about them there, I'll ask over there. Thanks for the heads-up.You got it, Joe. The library friends is affiliated with the park. I had the same reaction; "How did I miss that?" What I'm looking for is a U.S. distributor, or, if not available, any 'Catters (or anyone you know) looking to sell any. Thanks again.

Light suddenly came on-
Try Amazon.ca (not the American Amazon.com), the Canadian outlet. They have quite a selection of Chasse-Maree.
One of them is Chants de marines, Michel Colleu, at $46.71 Canadian.

Check with the Pyrates Royale, some friends of mine in Maryland who are very into this stuff. Also check with the house of musical traditions in takoma Park MD.

I'm on it, Chanteyranger, and will let you know what I find, though I suspect what we have is something different than chantey books. Instead of just looking at the shelf when you come over, try going to our website (maritimelibraryfriends.org), where there is a direct link at the bottom of the homepage to our site on abebooks.com. Then you can easily search our inventory for specific titles, etc. Also, for all you folks who buy from Amazon, there is a link to them at the bottom of our homepage. If you go to the Amazon site through our link and buy anything new, we get 5% at no cost to you. It's a good cause; the Library Friends support one of the finest maritime collections in the country.

Thanks, Melani. Been there/done that on the site, but thanks for posting info. Q, you hit paydirt with the Canadian Amazonians. I found some volumes on their site and will order. Makes me want sing "Oh, Canada," but I'll spare my friends. Thanks very much!

I just checked--what we have listed are magazines, not chantey books. But they're really great, full-color boat magazines!

Anyone looking for French books go to Amazon.ca; most will be handled by Amazon.ca and not by Amazon.com.
The same is true of DVD's.

Some French is a help in searching Amazon.ca. Eleven titles are listed as 'chants de marins'; and only five for 'chantey' (all in English). 'Shanties' produces Hugill's books (not found with chantey) and a lot on building shelters.

I just ordered the 4 volumes of the Chasse-Maree series, "Cahiers de Chants de Marins" from Amazon.ca. Thank you, Q!

Does this mean we may be hearing more French chanties at the monthly sings? That would be very nifty.
