Much Thanks (from Slag)

Hey You Guys are good!! Thank you for your kind thoughts and prayers. We got my dad home from the hospital today and he is doing a rapid recovery. The man is 86 and up to 4 weeks ago he was using a chainsaw and brushing out around his place. He injured a disc throwing brush up the hill. He has never taking anything but asprin and on a couple of ocassions antibiotic ( read disgustingly healthy) but the doc put him on vicodin and he got very dehydrated and in a downward spiral. Of course he'd never complain and it was pretty serious when we figured out what was hapening. He was in the hopital from Tuesday until this AM. Thakns again. I sincerely believe your faith and good energy was/is a significant factor in his on-going recovery! Slag (Tom)

Remember:

some of us here may disagree with some of your opinions on politics, religions, and worst of all - music! - but real people care about others emotions, and close ties.

Good to see the old guy up and about. He sounds like my father's father - lift a sack (I mean the old big ones!) of potatoes under each arm, throw them on the horse drawn cart, etc - unstoppable up to his eighties, till the stomach cancer sneaked up on him.

perhaps he will retire now....
sometimes it takes a signal like that...

glad to hear that he came back around...
clearing brush is soemthing we are compelled
to do in these fire - prone areas!

Great news. As for retirement, screw that. He obviously enjoys the hard work, so, if he dies doing it, he dies happy. I find that, at the end of a hard day's work, I sleep soundly and contently knowing I have accomplished something. I can only assume he finds the same joy.

You gnailed it gnu. There's no quit in him. When it's gone, it's gone. I wasn't built that way. I worked hard all my life at what ever I did but I certainly know how to relax and be lazy if I get the chance. Plus the old motorcycle injury slowed me down somewhat also!

Hi Slag. I've noticed you around the place lately and have been enjoying your postings very much. Welcome to the 'Cat from one of the upside down people in Oz!

It is great news about your dad. Obviously he is one of those people who seems tireless and packs loads of activity into every day. It's what works for some people.

My aunt was like that - up early and always in the garden doing heavy work well into her 80's. The "coffin nails" got her in the end - she did enjoy a smoke. A few years ago I had a neighbour across the road like that - she was always out the front lopping off branches, mowing, sweeping, leaf blowing - it never seemed to stop. You could get tired just watching her - which I sometimes did from my comfy seat on the front verandah ;-)

I, on the other hand, am more of your persuasion. Although I am not afraid of hard work, especially in the garden these days, I am a very good relaxer. I could give a workshop in relaxing if it wasn't so much hard work :-) I understand what Gnu said - I can sleep soundly and contentedly when I feel I have achieved something during the day. So with me it's a matter of getting the balance right.

Right now I'm feeling the need to get away from the computer screen and GET SOMETHING DONE! It's a terrible thing, this Mudcat addiction!

MUST..................GET........................AWAY......................

My father was the kind who never quit being active too...till about the month of his life. He died at 82 from liver failure. I have no expectation of living that long, although I've certainly lived a healthy life in most respects. I don't think I'm tough enough to last into my 80's. I figure I'll check out in the early or middle 70's, most likely, unless a tree falls on me first.
