I only found out because we were looking for the release date of his next novel after discussing it yesterday. I never met him but having read all his novels and seen his style develop since his first novel, 'Legend' in the mid 80's, I felt like I did know him. I missed his book signing in Waterstones last year but managed to get an autographed copy of 'The Silver Bow' which I now will treasure. Here is what the Guardian obituary had to say. Condolonces to his wife and family and may he rest in peace. Dave the Gnome |

My only complaint about his earlier work, as I was saying to Cllr, was that he seemed to cut the stories short suddenly. If I remember rightly in his very first work the whole Nadir campain came to an end with Ulrics untimely death. Now we have David Gemmel himself cut short while working on his last book:-( I still have the second of the Troy series on order. It is due out Sept. 1st. I wonder if anyone will ever piece together what there was of the third and publish it. DtG |
