22 Aug 06 - 09:42 AM (#1816026) Subject: RE: Whitby Session Pubs? From: GUEST,fi_in_nz We found plenty of Singarounds, but no sinarounds and anyway, I don't know if we'd've had the energy...... the beach with an 18month old during the day + nights in the pubs puts pay to any sinning we might be up for.... ;-) F PS We found the best was the Tap and Spile, Yacht Club and Mo and Jo's for serious singers and all the other pubs great for raucous join in stuff. F (didn't find a great shany session over the weekend though, much to my disappointment). |

22 Aug 06 - 06:38 PM (#1816500) Subject: RE: Whitby Session Pubs? From: John J Hi Dave, There were plenty of sessions, but unfortunately the background noise levels were incredibly high (on Saturday afternoon in the Tap & Spile and Saturday evening in the Endeavour & Middle Earth) but the trip to Glaisdale on Sunday afternoon saved the day! Sinarounds may just be the way to go. Cheers, John |

23 Aug 06 - 05:51 AM (#1816819) Subject: RE: Whitby Session Pubs? From: Nick John There are some pictures from Glaisdale at Glaisdale singaround. Some are a bit out of focus. There is also a short video clip of who was there which will be available for only a week at You Send it - it is about 11.5mb so on a slow connection it's not a great plan! Hope it brings back pleasant memories, I certainly enjoyed it too. Singing in some of the pubs was hard wasn't it unless you have a very loud voice and sing rousing chorus songs. And in the Endeavour I reckon I came across the worst example of rudeness in a singaround I have ever seen but will post that as a separate thread as I am still stunned about it... |

23 Aug 06 - 05:54 AM (#1816821) Subject: RE: Whitby Session Pubs? From: John J Thanks for this Nick, I was beginning to think I was losing my marbles / becoming a boring old fart or whatever. I do have a fairly loud voice and tend to sing rousing chorus songs but decided I wasn't even going to try in the Endeavour. Cheers, John |

29 Aug 06 - 04:28 PM (#1822021) Subject: RE: Whitby Session Pubs? From: Herga Kitty Fi in NZ - unfortunately Jim Mageean's lunchtme maritime singarounds in the Endeavour don't start until the Sunday (and I missed Sunday this year because I went to Glaisdale). They aren't exclusively shanty sessions, but shanties are always sung, even when not directly or remotely relevant to the theme of the day. The session specifically for shanty singing is Wednesday - also the silly shirts day. The winner of the silly shirt competition gets to keep the collection duck for a year, so they can fill it with money in aid of the Whitby lifeboat. Hope you can make it another year Kitty |
