Lyr Req: Old Cobeen

Hi,

I'm hoping to find out the lyrics for "The Old Cobeen" or "My Old Cobeen" for my Dad. It was one of my Grandfather's favorite tunes, and we have some of the lyrics, but not all.

Does anyone know the lyrics or where I could possibly find them?

Thanks to everyone/anyone who can help!

All the best,
Maureen

The song you're after is probably The Old Caubeen. I can't see the lyrics anywhere, but there is a recording of the tune: The Coolin (at Amazon)

There is a wonderful recording of the complete song (unaccompanied) on a cassette that was issued by the session musicians of Forkhill, Co Armagh. The tape is a nice collection of Irish dance tunes and ballads. I understand that the session still convenes on Tuesdays.

Shame on me for not being able to recall the name of the singer. I merely have a copy of a copy of the cassette, so I have limited background information on the participants. Maybe some other listmember has an original copy of the tape that identifies the fine singer.

Thanks so much for all your help Sorcha, Mick and DannyC.

Now, not only can I send him the lyrics, but I can drop by with the recording for him. It'll make his day twice: today (when I email the lyrics to him) and Sunday (when I drop by with the recording).

As you could probably tell this is no small miracle, he is the man who never needs a thing so this will mean the world to him (and me, thank you!)

All the best,

Maureen French
