Only just arrived in my part of the world, this is the DVD of the 1972 PBS special of Earl. It is a fascinating film -- a true snapshot of the late 1960s and the ethos of the time (it is particularly interesting to see Scruggs out front at the 1969 Vietnam protest -- the Dixie Chicks are not the first to alienate Nashville from a position of strength!).   Not to mention film of Bill Monroe and Earl together, the Moore Brothers singing Salty Dog Blues, and Doc Watson at home. Joan Baez is pretty amazing too -- just exudes charisma.   But it is Earl who is the star -- one comes out of it with a new respect for him.

The only disappointing thing is the advertising, which highlights Dylan, who is really only onscreen for a brief song. Really unnecessary.

Peter T.
