NOMAD Gridlock

The NOMAD grid is locked in now. So, who's all coming, and what workshops are you doing, if you are a performer? I'll be doing two workshops:

3 p.m., Sat., Nov. 4 Church And Street Corner Harmonies
The Gospel Messengers and The Sentinels

7 p.m.,   "    "   " Songs From The Attic
Jerry Rasmussen and Barbara and Frank Shaw

The Sentinels are a five man a capella doo wop group from Connecticut, who are widely acclaimed throughout the Northeast. They and the Messengers will be talking about the similarities and differences between black gospel quartet and church harmonies and the street corner rhtyhm and blues groups who often came out of the churches.

Songs from the attic will be old, beloved songs we sued to do that we're dusting off to sing again.

Hope to see (and hear) some Catters there..

Jerry

ShoreGrass:

8:00pm Saturday - "Songs of the Civil War Era" with Vixen and Reynaud joining us on whistle and fiddle!

The Shaws:

7:00pm Saturday - "Songs from the Attic" with Jerry Rasmussen. Frank used to play coffeehouses solo in his youth, so I'm looking forward to hearing some of his early gems, and I thought I'd dust off a couple that I used to sing to my kids when they were kids. (No, not children's songs! I have my standards...)

Hey, check out the new NOMAD website that just went live! You might see some folks you know in the photo collage at the top...

Yes, there are quite a few mudcatters in the photo collage! The list of 2006 performers is amazingly long, and I happen to know that many were turned down because there just wasn't enough time and space for all. Check out the grid to see what's preliminarily scheduled.

It's unfortunate that the Getaway is happening the same weekend as NOMAD. There aren't so many folk gatherings that they need to overlap, and I hope this is a temporary thing, because there are people who normally go to both and have to choose this year. This festival in New Haven is really fun and I hope to see lots of people there in November supporting and enjoying the 19th annual NOMAD festival.

Man, there would be some tough choices to make if I were going... looks like fun.

More sighs for today.
