Chicago Area Gigs in Feb

I am developing some dates in KS and Iowa in February. I'll be in the Chicago area for a few weekdays and woud like to find a show or two if possible. I'm not sure where to look (beyond the obvious Pubs). Any Mudcatters up that way, have any suggestions? In particular; Sun Feb 4 through Thu Feb 8 are all open, at the moment.

Thanks

Jed,

There's not a lot of venues that present music during the week in the Chicago area. Most of the coffeehouses do weekends, and don't pay much to speak of either. Check out the Abbey Pub, though they tend to lean more towards rock these days. They still do the occasion folk act. If you know someone who could throw a house concert, that might be a better option.

Jed, about 90 miles East of Chicago, and pretty accessible, is South Bend, Indiana. There is a venue there that is very supportive of "folk" and "celtic" (their words, not mine). The name of the venue is Fiddler's Hearth and the lady of the house is Mrs.Carol Meehan. She and her son,Sean, would be the one or ones to speak with about getting a gig. You can tell them Eileen sent you if you like. I've often set up bands there before...usually folk who are catching a gig between festivals.

Fiddler's Hearth is a great venue and as Eileen says, very folk friendly. And the bonus is that you can talk a visit to one of the great campuses in the world, that being the home of the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, one of the greatest Universities anywhere.

Jaysus mick! I guess I have a lack of respect for the Univ. as I grew up in "the shadow of the dome"!

Thanks for the tip. I'll write them BUT Eileen? Eileen who? He'll probably ask ... can you PM me?

Heya Jed, I can nearly guarantee that they WILL know me....however, it's Eileen McLane. I'm there every Monday session when I'm back "home" visiting and often gig there as well.

OK - thanks Eileen. I'll pass it on. It look like that could be a good place for Thu night show, if it works out. I appreciate the tip.

Jed,
There's another Irish pub in Downers Grove, part of the Ballydoyle chain. They also seem to have music alot. They tend towards more rock oriented. However I understand that the owner/manager is a folky fan, who frequents one of the same music stores that I do. So, that might be worth a try. Downers Grove is a little less than an hour west of Chicago.

Try Hogeye Records in Evanston-- they do concerts from time to time. Also you might find a way to network in on the school scene for workshops-- given your history bent I'd think it would be a natural, and there may be some unspent grant money lying around you could angle for.

Thanks for these suggestions.

I'm hoping Fiddler's Hearth comes through - but so far they've ignored me. I'll try again this week and if nothing I'll move on. This one is good it fits well with my travel plans and gets me near a radio show I'd like to do.

BUT the week before, Jan 20 to Feb 1 I have weeknights available to visit maybe:

Joplin MO
Tulsa OK
Springfield MO
Wichita KS

Any thoughts for venues there? I'll keep working the Chicago suggestions.
