Beverley Music - Support

02 Sep 06 - 05:44 AM (#1825258)
Subject: Beverley Music - Support
From: ET

There are a number of music sessions in Beverley, East Yorks worthy of support. Theres an instrument session on Tuesdays at the Woolpack, an Open Mike do at the Rose and Crown every other Tuesday and a regular mixed session in the Monks Walk, also Tuesday nights. This is 8pm -9 pm for dot reading and newcomers and then 9 to late for everything going, songs, music all types. Good night.   On Fridays there has been and will continue this next Friday, a session in the Tiger, Lairgate, large front room, for all tunes and songs again. Well worth supporting.

You got me there Mick. If, as reported, the sun has changed hands again I wouldn't want to go in there without prior arrangement.

Someone did suggest reverting to Hodgson's - but I don't know

Landlady of Sun was supposed to have gone but have heard the holding company haven't replaced her so she's there for another week. Barman John is supposed to be leaving too but don't know when.

Good turnout for the Sun on Sunday. However, it was so noisy that I struggled to hear anything for most of the afternoon - even when I was singing myself.

Anyone else notice the noise level?

Subject: RE: Beverley Music - Support

Yeh, I did as well.Maybe was it my imagination but was it noisier than usual?Problem being Rog it is a pub, cant ask much else from non folkies/muso's.

However,It would be nice if a few of the folk supporters and performers maybe showed a little consideration for others especially the quieter ones among us.?

I was at a singaround in Saltburn recentley hosted by the Wilson familly who made it quite plain from the start that bad manners as in noise levals would not be tolerated, seemed to do the trick !!

Yes, I know that my ears don't cope well with background noise, but it was more like foreground noise than background!

It will be 4pm in the Sun. However, we need to talk to the new manager about times because the 4pm start is based on the previous incumbent serving food up to 3pm - if the new one doesn't do that, we may be able to get back to 3pm.

Mick, I will miss Monk's because I don't return from Portugal until Thursday 5th October and Monk's in Sunday 1st.

I won't be around now until the next time in the Sun on Oct 8th - my session as it happens!

However, we did agree amongst ourselves that we would start all Beverley sessions from 3pm with immediate effect. So, next Sunday at 3pm is the Monk's Walk and the following week at 3pm is the Sun

Guest theleveller - if we're not in the Sun, Flemingate (under the Minster) we're in Hodgsons,(Flemingate - turn left out of the Sun,over the railway line) a mere 4 minute stroll between the two unless you visit on the 'first Sunday' when we're in The Monks Walk, Highgate, leading townward from the Minster... we spread ourselves to keep the pubs happy and our lives varied!!! Well, my life anyway.

Thanks for that Hazel.

yeh, always good to see and hear Gifford.

A little explanation is needed here I think;

It is mooted that we hold the "first sunday session" in "Monks" on the New years day 2007 which is a Monday - Sunday actually falls on the 31st Dec 2006.

I do know some of you regulars go to Whitby over the festivities but from the requests I have had I think we could have the makings of a good day.

Wadayall think? let me have some responces from people who can attend so I can get some sort of an idea if it is feasable.

The Irish pub in Burg square Bruge is welcoming a session on Sunday 21st January, daytime.
The ferry leaving on Saturday 20th January and coming back Sunday 21st January to arrive Monday 22nd about 8am can be booked on 08705 202020 or online, and the cheapest price at the moment is £48 for two people (that's £24 each) for a two berth inside cabin with en-suite, including coach transfers Zeebruge-Bruge, excluding food. And you need quote the Sun special offer to get that price.
The price seems to go up and down and there are different special offers that come up in some newspapers (Sun, News of the world, etc)

All kinds of music and singers welcome. It could be a great session if enough people are there.
