BS: How was your summer holidays this year ?

Time to get members smiling again and away from a couple of current threads that could boil over.

Right time to reminisce and reflect on the past few months and tell us where you went on holiday and if you enjoyed it.

As I retired this year after twenty six years working in mental health at the nice young age of 46 I started with a month on my own in Spain last March.

Then it was Ireland again, just me and my motorbike. Really nothing beats getting up at 5.00am, the sun shining, and getting on the open road.

I love the West Coast from Donegal to Galway. Achill Island in Mayo is the love of my life. Staying ove in B&B's and starting out early next day.

Over the years I have covered most of the coast line of Ireland.

So where did the rest of you go this year ?

We went to Atlanta to visit my sisters family. But we're planning a long weekend in New York City soon.

Italy and Dunfermline. Somethings to see and grand-daughters to love.

My summer consisted of me working and moving! From PA to NC. Though, it's northern North Carolina so it's a lot like Virginia - green, rolling hills.

Went with a group of friends / muscians to our usual hideaway at Kildonan on the SE coast of Arran. The weather was kinder than usual and the midges left us alone until the night of the Aly Bain/ Phil Cunningham concert three quarters of the way through the fortnight.

Some great walking and a sea trip to the Kyles of Bute on a RIB and Loch Long on The Waverley.

A whole day of "hunting" standing stones and cist burial mounds surrounded by dragonflies and butterflies - Magic!

Stilly River Sage, the wind and rain is pouring down here as it did most of today.

Had to cancel mine. I had an operation in May and was not fit enough to travel. However, a friend's daughter is getting married in October in Belfast, so we are going and planning to have a few days afterwards, probably on the Antrim coast.

It will be our first visit to Ireland.

Which reminds me, I must book the flights before it is too late :-)

My holiday was great!
Went home for a week for my mothers wedding (which was fantastic!), then back up to Edinburgh for three days where I had a cold :-(. Then at midnight I got on a coach bound for Germany with fellow lunitics (sorry, dancers). 36 hours (almost exactly) later we got to Burg Ludwigstein for the Eurowoche here There is a picture of me in a mini kilt banging a saucepan lid somwhere!

Unfortunatly my cold which hung on all week turned into a chest infection when I got back to Aberdeen!

jacqui and I went to California and visited with Utah Phillips, toured the north part of California, ventured into Nevada to see the Donner Pass, did a performance with Utah.

Went to the UK for three weeks, Cornwall, Wales and Scotland.
Went to Altamont NY for the Old Songs festival, met Jody Stecker and Kate Breslin, she was real nice.

In August went to Hampton New Brunswick for a private "Rinktum", and that's about it.
Jacqui has been in England for three weeks, due home in about two hours.
While she has been gone I've condensed a dozen songs that I recorded before I lost my voice, and I'm hoping to get enough material for another CD.

Too poorly for a holiday this year, other than a few days in God's Own Acre (the Lochaber area of NW Scotland) including a run out to Ardnamurchan Lighthouse and over the Kilchoan Ferry to Tobermory. Been recuperating from the op. for a while now, so holidays are on hold until next year - then maybe Canada again visiting tall-ship friends and Mrs. Johnny's relatives, or maybe a slow roast in the sunshine in Greece. Bring it on!

Wonderful! I was with Crystal for the wedding and the dance trip, and had a great time. It is possible to get tired of people telling you how good/nice a couple you make though....

First of all, how is it that someone who works in "mental health" can get by workin' for only 27 years and be able to retire at age 47??? Somethin' fishy here...

But nevermind that question...

Ummmm, another long hot summer of watering gardens to keep the drought at bay... Now we've had a little rain and some breathin' room but tryin' to get a house I'm buildin' under roof and buttoned up on the outside so we can finish the interior this winter...

...but, alas... We're headin' down to the mountains of wsetern North Carolina fir a week next week... Not exactly a danged vacation 'cause we're going down to help the P-Vine's sister get ready for a surprise birthday party for a daughter but, hey, it ain't go nuthin' to do with either a hose or a hammer, so we'll take it...

Maybe next year we'll do the traditional vacation... but that what I say every year 'bout this time...
