Coolbeans:

Remember you can always call up past threads on any topic using the filter on the first page of the Forum. You can also search for all posts containing a given phrase using the search engine in the upper left. These two devices are well worth learning.

Amos, I had already tried that and I wasn't getting anywhere. Plus, I had waded through the current post about everyone not coming to the Getaway and it provided no concrete information. It was a lot quicker just to ask.

CB, you would love The Getaway!!! It is a wonderful weekend, full of workshops, miniconcerts, singarounds, laughing, meeting folks, enjoying fellowship with like minded people, etc.

Get thee to one, my friend, and you will be happy you did.

All the best,

Mick

Try it. You may like it! It might be a different mix this year and be better for it, or worse! But it's worth a try.

I had a great time last year, but I knew what I wanted to do and some of the folks who would be there that I could count on for support.

But be aware that it may not be a great experience for everyone.

You ask "What's de Getaway?"   What kinda dumb mug are you? It works like dis. First you plan de heist. Den you bust inta da joint witcher gang, stick up de guys in suits, and bag de swag. Den you make "De Getaway". For de getaway you need a good driver and a fast car. You come outta de joint, guns blazin', all jump in de car and DUST! If anyone gets in de way, blast 'em.

Dat's de Getaway.

Here are a few threads that will give you a more subjective picture of the Getaway, CoolBeans.

I think this was the first Getaway where we opened it to Mudcat:

2001 Getaway Memories thread (105 posts)

From a later Getaway:
Getaway 2004 memories (317 posts)

Getaway 2005 (warning -- 719 posts)

Not nit-picking Rita but I think that 1999 was the 1st year you guys welcomed your first batch of non local Mudcatters, & it was a treat (thank you). I well remember doing a prision workshop with Roger In Baltimore & a shanty thing with Dave Diamond both are now like cousins. And I remember meeting you & Bill for the first time, now both like siblings (no Bill, I didn't say "silly things").
Anyway a much more healthy me will be so glad to see you again.

Love ya
Barry

Yeah, the first year was the last year it was at Prince William. I don't know about "opening it up" to us, we just paid our non member fees and came. I drove all night on the screwiest route that DeLorme could possibly come up with. After that I learned a lesson. Instead of DeLorme, I used CharlieBaum.com. Charlie can tell you the best way to go absolutely anywhere. No GPS, no routing software ...... just Charlie.

We were treated so wonderfully, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. These FSGW'ers went out of their way to make us feel welcome. One of the best decisions I have ever made was to hook up with these marvelous folks.

Come to the Getaway. You will never regret it.

And Barry ..... you may love Rita ..... but I love her more.

Mick

Definitely 1999. I can't find the thread to prove it, but, if you go to Member Photos & Info & then to Events, you'll find the photos near the bottom of the list. It was the only year I've been able to attend, so far, & it was wonderful!

Mick and Barry, up, it was 1999. Of course Mudcatters had come before that year. But in 1999, Charlie and I asked the FSGW Board if we could put an invitation online for the Mudcat members. And we did. that's what I meant by "opening it up to Mudcatters." We issued an invitation.

Sorry Rita, that was an attempt at humor, but in rereading it I can see that I should do that when awake instead of in the early AM.

The welcome we received was so warm, and the event so wonderful, that I will never forget it.

This last bit of the conversation reminds me of one of the very best reasons you could have to come to Getaway. Or should I say two of the very best reasons. The chance to meet Bill D and Rita Ferrara should be worth the trip on its own. But unless you are prepared to lose your heart, you better leave it home. One of my favorite Getaway memories is when Rita came over and sat down with me at the 1st getaway at Havre de Grace and asked me to sing a song (Death of Queen Jane). She then did it the way she knew and we had one of the loveliest conversations. When I used to do mini concerts, I loved to look up and see Bill in his portable chair. His smile is so infectious and his way so genuine, that I knew we would be friends for a long while. These are the type of lifetime friends you will make with very little effort at the Getaway. FSGW is loaded with caring and giving folks. I have grown close to a number of them.

Come and make music with us.

Mick

By the way CharlieBaum.com will not get to to me for driving route information. A PM through Max's Private Messages or a phone call or e-mail (see the Getaway registration form for details) will.

Thanks, Charlie. It never occurred to me that my tongue in cheek comment would be taken seriously..... LOL. Charlie Baum is a real guy, not a website. And he has an uncanny talent for routing you the best way to anywhere.

All the best,

Mick

More fun than human beings should be allowed to have, that's what it is. I had been away from any kind of we-sing-it-because-we-love-it-and-it-feels-good folks for so long, and they did things I hadn't heard since I was a kid, that I cried a number of times. Then there were the times I laughed so hard I cried. Take tissue. Wish we could be there.       Tw
