I am interested in accomanying song on the english concertina, but I am a bit of a novice at concertina playing, so don't have any specific questions yet - just feeling my way around. It's nice to know there is someone I can ask when I do have something specific to ask.

Thank you

I can play a little bit of (duet) concertina, and sing a little bit when people aren't quick enough to stop me, but as for doing both at the same time....

What I have found though is that I really need to play A/E rather than D/G for most tunes, as the bottom end of my voice is about E.

That shouldn't be a problem on a duet, Paul - or an English. I'm often asked what key my duet is in, and folks get very confused when I say "all of them" - but it is. Only the smaller Anglo systems are restricted to just a couple of keys, and on a 30+ button Anglo you can play in most keys by crossing the rows.

You will probably find the ket of a dorian [ AMINOR]easy enough. find notes a c e[ aminor ] e g b[ Eminor]gbd [gmajor]C E G [ c major], F MAJOR F A C , d minor d f a. then practice the scale of a dorian, a b c d e fsharp g a. .
then practice the scale of a major, a b csh d e f sh g sh a.then the chords of a major a csh e,d major d fsh a. e major e gsh b.f sh minor f a csharp. also make a diagram of your fingerboard. Dick Miles

slightly off topic, I play a D/G melodeon - but for the life of me can't sing along with it.

Guess reason being don't possess sufficient brane cells cos've trying to remember where all notes on push/pull combinations are.

Can play 'skip to my loo' on anglo concertina but no singeing for same reason I think.

Oddly though, when I sometimes play chord organ, I don't have any probs sining along.

Poss because organ set up is more similar to pain o'accordian or english concetrina - all notes same in/out.

Comments?

Mr happy , in my biased opinion, the english concertina is easier for song accompaniment ,it is a very good chordal instrument.Dick Miles
