Hint: G-13 -- "And all the money they did waste, I wish it could be sav-ed." -- is from a song that has a bit stronger significance in this side of the pond. (US) You folks have correctly guessed all mine except these: G-3 "... where the humu humu nuku nuku a pu'a'a goes swimming by" G-6 "We'll have to walk down where the fields are overgrown. (Hint: lesser-known song from a very well-known US songwriter) G-12 "When purple-colored curtains mark the end of day" G-15 "My old man will be sleepin' an' he won't even know I'm gone." (Hint: The song is well-known, but the best-selling recording of the song did not include this verse.) |

" G-18 "When we sing, a spark within us wakes & is fanned into a flame. To those who hear our spirit's voice, it calls in them the same" G-19 ""I've begged the Lord over & over again to send you home safely to me. 16 Sep 06 - 02:56 AM (#1835815) Subject: RE: (Quiz) What song is this line from ? From: chazkratz CK 2 is indeed from "She Is More to Be Pitied than Censured," like CK 10, "Tale Back Your Gold," an 1890's or so tear jerker. CK 3's title is "The Inebriate and the Pig," but the pig was more polite: He got up and _slowly_ walked away. CK 4 is indeed from "Finnegan's Wake" and CK 5 from "The Mountains of Mourne." CK 8, as I said above is from "Fare Thee, Titanic," and is indeed by Lead Belly, composed after John Lomax told him about Jack Johnson's rejection as a passenger on the ill fated liner, as I recall the story. It might have been Pete Seeger, though, who told him. That leaves CK 6 (I thought this would go quickly--it's by a very famous pop composer); CK 7 likewise. I figured someone might remember CK 1, but was pretty sure that CK 9 would go unidentified for a while...although I posted the lyrics to the 'cat a few years ago. Charles |
