I remember hearing this on some variety show, as a kid in the sixties; then, I think it was the "Hudson Bros." who sang it (my last name was Hudson, too).

Sorry, I can't be of more help.

Music! Music! Music!
Recorded by: Teresa Brewer
Writers: Stephan Weiss & Bernie Baum

Put another nickel in -
In the Nickelodeon
All I want is having you
and Music! Music! Music!

I'd do anything for you -
anything you'd want me to
All I want is kissing you
and Music! Music! Music!

Closer
My dear - come closer
The nicest part of any melody
Is when you're dancing close to me-
So-

Put another nickel in -
In the nickelodeon
All I want is loving you
and Music! Music! Music!

Publication date I have from two sources is 1950, written by Stephan Weiss and Bernie Baum.

When I was a child (long long ago) we sang the words:
Weet je wat de mode is
    Zwemmen in de paardenpis
    Duiken in de koeienstront en
    Music, music, music!
I will not give the translation, you can give it a try.

I've been searching online without success for the old lyrics of "Music, Music, Music." Countless sites have short versions associated with Teresa Brewer or Ray Charles. Those seem to be modern abbreciations - only partial - with more verses and elaborations omitted. As a child, ca. 1950s or so, I heard a longer version sung by my (late) father. It could have come from my grandfather, who was an early 20th century vaudeville performer. I'm haunted by it now, but can't find full printed lyrics anywhere to expand and correct my memory.

I do remember The New Seekers singing, what I seem to recall, was a fuller version of this on British T.V. sometime in the early 'Seventies.Might be worth looking at their back catalogue.

There was also a version by The Sensations in 1961, which made the US R&B charts. It was available (in the UK at least) on a compilation CD which I have somewhere.

One might also note that the term 'nickelodeon' was antique by the 60's, not in popular usage at all, I believe. The word first appeared in 1938. This makes me suspect the 50's and 60's versions were revivals.

Who recognizes that theme for the words "Closer, my dear come closer.." Is it from Liszt, a Brahms Hungarian dance or what?

It's obvious that the composers were having a lot of fun when they wrote it. I'm not surprised that it was a hit.

It's Liszt's (2nd, I think) Hungarian Rhapsody.

Bobad, the only 'correction' I'd make to the lyrics you posted is that (at least in Tessie Brewer's version and in the sheet music I've seen) the first verse says "havin' you," not "lovin' you."

And, yes, the tune is derived from a much older musical piece. That it's a Hungarian Rhapsody by Lizst sounds right to me. Of course, I also have read that his Hungarian rhapsodies were themselves derived from older folk tunes.

I also get the feeling, based on how popular this song is with the centenarians, nonogenarians, and other elders I've been doing music with for a long time, that the 1950 versions were covers of an older popular hit.

More than any other piece of music, Theresa Brewer's 1950 hit takes me back to when I was young. Close my eyes and I'm there. Amazing how music can recreate with such precision a time and a place and all the emotions of living in that period.

I was 9 or 10 when that song was popular. I bought a used 78 (I'm not sure if 45s were in use yet) not on the American Coral Label, but on the London label which I suppose was her British affiliate or some such.

When I was little (how long ago?) there was an ice-cream parlor called The Nickelodeon at Bay Village on Long Beach Island, NJ.

Seems to me that they HAD a nickelodeon!

This is the version I here from the Choir Director at my school:

Put another nickle in
in the nickelodeon.
All I want is loving you
and the music, music, music!

I'd do anything for you,
anything you want me to.
All I want is loving you
and the music, music, music!

Closer, my dear, come closer.
The sweetest part of any melody,
is when your dancing here with me!

So put another nickle in,
in the nickelodeon.
All I want is loving you
and the music, music, music.

Mention of Teresa Brewer set my memory twitchin' - was there a clip of Teresa Brewer singing "Copenhagen" as an interlude between transmissions of programmes on UK TV in the early fifties. Has anyone got the lyrics/music?

The 1950S version was a revival of a bawdy bar-room ballad much favoured by drunken honkey- tonkers in the late 1800S and is traceable back to the notorious Debauched days of Klondike excesses up and down the Yukon river. The lyrics have been interpreted by various folklorists and surrealists as being highly suggestive sexual symbolisim as was common practice for many lyricists of the day IE the use of innocuous words to convey a statement or message of esoteric nature. Other examples are -I took out me fiddle to play me love a tune-----she stopped for to rosin my bow---ball of yarn etc etc and all the napoleonic songs in which he was never referred to by name but as--- the green linnet----boney etc--- . Any one ever hear of that spin?

Off-topic: Intertrans helpfully renders Will Bakker's version
as:
Know yours what the style is
Swim within the horse leg
Plunge within the koeienstront
and Musical , musical , musical!

I hope that clears everything up.
