Petrov saved the world September 26 A good many years ago, on this day, during the Cold War, a certain Russian military man refused to believe that the blips on his screen were real US missiles, thus averting a Russian Missile launch. This would have been, of course, proof of Russia starting WW III. |

WWIII might have been shorter and less messy than what are dealing with now and what our children will have to deal with. A war between say Kruschev and Kennedy would surely have been more civilised than a war between Bush and his demons...or am I just talking through a hole in my head? Did Petrov save the world or did he miss his opportunity to save it? |
