24 Sep 06 - 08:29 AM (#1841954) Subject: BS: Thread race! #8 From: Raptor OK this might be the dumbest idea ever. We start our threads refresh them to the top and race them down to the bottom of the page. the first thread to fall off the BS section wins! Just put thread race and then a number in the title, Don't pick someone else's number(first come first served. Raptor(and I haven't even started drinking yet!) |

From: The Shambles I think this violates one of the underlying agreements of the Mudcat about not loading down the servers of this free environment with completely frivolous material. Where is this so written and who should care what you may think about what others are doing? The mother of all BS threads Just join in with any suggestion or don't. What point is there in posting only litter our forum with persoanal judgements of those who may find such things amusing? Our forum has a simple principle. You decide to post or you do not. What others may choose to post - is really NO ONE else's business. |

24 Sep 06 - 08:01 PM (#1842462) Subject: RE: BS: Thread race! From: number 6 A valid point about the Big Mother and this thread Shambles. What's the difference ... this thread if it maintains a life active with daily posts would just be another thread that weighs a few tonnes plus of nonsensical jabberwocky. But then it's the way of the BS. That's why we generally post here. Relieve out weary souls of it's daily mundane burdens; to partake in some meaningless cyber madness. sIx |

24 Sep 06 - 08:51 PM (#1842504) Subject: RE: BS: Thread race! From: Amos I would argue that irrelevant cybermadness with no redeeming social value is not the purpose of the Cat. The MOAB certainly pushes this boundary, but it brings out humor, creativity, and occasional poetry, while something like this requires no humor, no creativity and inspires nothing but hot air. Loading down the Cat's servers with meaningless trash is kind of...well, maybe the word is counter-productive. A |

24 Sep 06 - 09:09 PM (#1842512) Subject: RE: BS: Thread race! From: number 6 I agree Amos ... jabberwacky brings out humour, creativity and humour ... and most of us here in the Cat would not deny or enjoy it ... but who says this thread would not eventually drift into this format. What was the initial intent of the 'Mother' when it's first post appeared. Regardless ... i'm outta this thread. Wouldn't have posted but just had to put my 2 quarters onto the table. All in all it doesn't really matter to me anyway ... so I won't waste anymore energy on this. sIx |

You may argue this - but others may argue that such arguments are not the purpose of the Cat. They may well be right too: THE POINT OF THIS WEB SITE IS HAPPINESS. |

24 Sep 06 - 11:01 PM (#1842570) Subject: RE: BS: Thread race! From: GUEST,A WWW Forum Participant This thread is the worst case of forum violation I have ever encountered. This not only loads down the Mudcats servers but also overloads all WWW connectivity. |

25 Sep 06 - 03:31 AM (#1842636) Subject: RE: BS: Thread race! From: The Shambles Only for those capable of dealing in happiness, Sham. Not an art that survives in all souls. I agree that there are those who seemingly can only search for happiness by making personal judgements of and complaining about the worth of others and feel they have some right to deny these others the freedom that they themselves take as a right. Even though this is open-ended - as they never appear to be happy - no matter what changes they are permitted to impose. I question why they appear to be encouraged in this - if the purpose of our forum is still as stated? And why they are not encouraged to form their own website to do this - rather than feel they have some right to impose their tastes and obsessions and change our forum to suit their requirements? |

25 Sep 06 - 04:15 PM (#1843121) Subject: RE: BS: Thread race! From: Stilly River Sage Now this thread is beginning to warm up nicely to MOAB standards. It sometimes takes a while for folks to get the drift of why MOAB has such enduring characteristics. We're not wasting anyone's time starting all sorts of short little threads to riff on something we saw or thunk or sang lately. We keep a running conversation going. Very tidy that way. Think of that kitchen table thread--on steroids (and perhaps other unnamed accelerants). SRS |
