help preparing for digital distribution

Subject: help preparing for digital distribution
From: GUEST,Sharon G

I'm looking for some answers to questions before being able to get digital distribution for recordings using CD Baby.

I'm not 100% sure how to credit tunes in medleys when some are recently composed (most recorded w/ permission of the composer)

I have some other questions about tracking down dates to see if some songs or tunes are still under copyright and how to contact composers of certain tunes.

Is there anyone who has experience with this?
Sharon

Hi Sharon

I am a digital jukebox manufacturer, to distibute music you need a dubing licence from the PPL (phonographic performance licence) it cost £25,000 per annum for audio & another £25.000 for video content. Every track you distibute/sell you pay a further 10p to the PPL. This allows you to distibute anybodies music in the UK.

Hope this is some help.

Sharon - I suggest you hang about until somebody who knows all about the answers to your questions shows up. I am aware that a number of Mudcatters have used CD Baby to distribute their recordings. Not that long ago Bobert had a thread advertising his CD which was being distributed through them.
Questions of copyright and permissions to use tunes or songs have also been discussed within the forum. A forum search (Lyrics & Knowledge Search - box at top of page) using keywords such as copyright may pull up old threads of interest to you.
If you do not know the origin/compser/date of a specific tune, Mudcatters are very good at finding such information. Ask in a separate thread with the tune name clearly included.
Best of luck.
Quack!
