Short hops, & only round trips. What a great, wacky thread this may turn out to be! (Guest, did you by any chance take off from BCC? :~) ~S~ |

The person had lived in SFO (San Francisco), but was in SMF (Sacramento) when she died. SMF stands for "Sacramento Metropolitan Field." Has anybody else seen that? -Joe- |

(Some info for both of the above shown as listed as unverified. WTC apparently does still appear in the IATA index of Airport Codes, but the site I checked may not have kept up with recent revisions. It is still a location even though there's nobody home. John (near ITC) |

The codes are published tri-annually in the IATA Airline Coding Directory. The codes are not unique: 323 of the possible 17,576 codes are used by more than one airport. ... IATA also provides codes for railway stations and for airport handling entities. A list of airports sorted by IATA code is available. A list of railway stations codeshared in agreements between airlines and rail lines such as Amtrak, SNCF French Rail, Deutsche Bahn, Thalys International, and Swiss Rail is available. There is also a separate List of Amtrak station codes, three-character codes used by Amtrak for its railway stations in the United States and Canada." |

30 Sep 06 - 06:10 PM (#1847159) Subject: RE: BS: Non-exitstant airport codes From: Tootler My local airport has recently been renamed from Teesside to Durham Tees Valley - How pretentious can you get. I preferred Teesside it is concise and describes the location. The bunch of businessmen who took it over didn't think Teesside was upmarket enough!!! However the three letter code is MME. Goodness only knows how it got that. The RAF station which it grew out of was Middleton St. George which is closer but does not really fit. The new name caused amusement in Schipol. The woman who opened the gate to let us on to the plane home once asked if we had renamed our city! Well I suppose the airport is in County Durham <shrugs shoulders> |
